Before You Pay, Verify.
The IRS continues to expand online access to tax information for individuals and eligible business owners, making it easier to review balances, payments, tax records, transcripts, and certain notices.
That access can also help you verify information before taking action.
The IRS warns that scammers may impersonate the agency through emails, text messages, phone calls, and even fraudulent letters. If a communication is unexpected, pressures you to act quickly, requests sensitive information, or demands immediate payment, take time to verify it first.
Before responding or sending payment:
✅ Review the communication carefully.
✅ Check your IRS Individual or Business Tax Account when applicable.
✅ Never share your online account credentials.
✅ If something doesn’t look right, verify before sending money or personal information.
Stay informed. Verify first. Act with confidence.
