Global Citizens Initiative

Global Citizens Initiative GCI empowers young global citizens to be lifelong ethical leaders of positive change.

GCI's mission is to empower young global citizens from all sectors of society to be lifelong leaders of positive change. We envision a global community where individuals embrace their unique colorful stories and cultures as they design and implement solutions to global issues that transcend social, economic and political boundaries. We yearn for a more peaceful and stable world of tomorrow, founde

d on the universal acceptance of shared fundamental values and a common denominator: that we are all human. We prize and celebrate innovative thinking, individual initiative, scholarship, religious plurality, cultural diversity and environmental sustainability.

Today, Fellows spent the morning in Harkness discussions, exploring topics like the decline of the Scottish Sea Trout, the global health landscape, and importance of recognizing and understanding different perspectives.

In the afternoon, we welcomed leaders from Social Enterprise Scotland for presentations and a panel discussion on using social enterprise to create lasting impact. Hearing from entrepreneurs, policymakers, and community leaders gave Fellows a firsthand look at how innovative ideas can strengthen communities and how personal interests can grow into projects that make a real difference.

Cheers to Day 2 at the GCI Summit! Yesterday, we spent the day getting to know each other a little better through team-building activities on the beach, where some Fellows even took the plunge with a wild swim in the North Sea. We also explored St Andrews on a guided walking tour, learning more about the town we’ll call home this week, and ended the day learning traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing together.

Our 2026 Fellows have officially arrived in St Andrews! After traveling from around the world by plane, train, and car, everyone spent the day getting settled into John Burnet Hall, playing welcome games and activities with Summit Teaching Assistants (TAs), and getting to know all of the people they’ll be spending the next nine days with. We wrapped up the evening with our Welcome Dinner and gathering to watch the FIFA World Cup Final—our first night together as a community. We’re so excited for everything this week has in store.

The countdown is almost over! Our team is in St Andrews this week preparing to welcome the 2026 GCI Fellows. We’ve been diving into TA Orientation, walking through the week together, and getting everything ready for what promises to be an incredible Summit. We can’t wait to see the connections, conversations, and Glocal Service Projects (GSPs) that will come to life over the next week.

Global Citizens Initiative (GCI) and Bald Mountain Meadow (BMM) are excited to welcome a new and intentionally cultivated cohort of exceptional students from around the globe to start their ten-month GCI Fellowship by gathering at the 2026 GCI Summit in St Andrews, Scotland. Fellows will explore global issues through the lens of ethical leadership, while learning new frameworks for dialogue and problem-solving rooted in mutual respect and empathy. We come together to renew our resilience and hope for a better future as we support one another and our students in a time marked by global conflict, social change, and ongoing uncertainty.

The purpose of the Fellowship is to immerse students in a holistic, experiential learning environment that fosters sharing, reflection, and growth. Through meaningful dialogue, hands-on problem solving, and cross-cultural collaboration, the program nurtures each participant to become a positive agent of change. The goal is to empower students to make a difference in their own communities and to build a lifelong, life-changing network of peers from around the world.
