The Foundation creates the ideal environment in which the ONS physicians can maximally utilize their research skills and critically ask and answer the musculoskeletal questions that affect all of our lives. By evaluating and communicating the most advanced surgical and rehabilitation techniques and clinical outcomes in orthopaedic and neurosurgery, The ONS Foundation will strive to make significant improvements in patient care on local, national and global levels … Putting knowledge in motion.

Celebrating Zoe Cass and Her Next Chapter in Medicine 🩺

Over the past two years, Zoe has been a valued member of ONSF, joining us as a research intern during her gap year. She contributed to clinical research with Dr. Paul Sethi and supported many of the Foundation’s educational and fundraising initiatives, including our annual Golf Outings and Medical Education Conferences.

Zoe embraced every opportunity to learn and played an active role in advancing the Foundation’s mission. Her research with Dr. Sethi on “Retensionable Anchor Repair of Proximal Anterior Cruciate Ligament Avulsion”, later accepted for publication in Arthroscopy Techniques, highlights the type of mentorship and hands‑on experience ONSF is committed to providing to emerging medical professionals.

We are proud to celebrate Zoe, pictured here with her parents, as she begins medical school at the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University.

Zoe, thank you for your dedication, enthusiasm, and meaningful contributions to ONSF. We look forward to all you will accomplish in the years ahead!

ONSF's 13th Annual Mini-Med School brought another inspiring week of discovery and hands-on learning to the ONSF Arthroscopy, Surgical Skills, and Biomechanical Research Laboratory in Greenwich, CT, June 22–25. 🧬🩺

Sixteen outstanding high school students from across the region spent the week exploring the world of orthopedic and neurological medicine through immersive experiences designed to challenge, educate, and inspire.

From suturing and casting to surgical simulations, interactive labs, and physician-led discussions, students gained valuable clinical exposure while learning that exceptional patient care depends on collaboration, communication, and teamwork.

Each participant is nominated by science department leaders from approximately 30 area high schools, recognizing rising sophomores and juniors with a demonstrated passion for science and medicine. By investing in these promising students today, ONSF is helping cultivate the next generation of physician leaders while continuing its commitment to advancing medical education in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to our physicians and volunteers whose expertise, mentorship, and generosity make this experience possible. Your dedication is helping shape the future of healthcare. 🥼

On Thursday, May 21st, Dr. Kowalsky and the ONS Foundation hosted the Ardsley High School Pre-medical Club for another visit to the bioskills laboratory. In past years, they learned about the principles of arthroscopic surgery and fracture repair, had an opportunity to perform these surgical procedures on models, and learned anatomy on a cadaver model. 👩‍⚕️

This year, the group learned how to suture using pig feet as a model. Dr. Kowalsky first spoke to the students about principles of care of the skin and soft tissues, and the materials surgeons use for suturing in surgical procedures. Then the students had the opportunity to put this knowledge to practical use in the laboratory. 🧪

As part of its broader commitment to education, the ONS Foundation continues to provide meaningful, real‑world learning opportunities for students across Fairfield and Westchester counties. Programs like these help inspire the next generation of health care professionals and reflect our mission to advance research, education, and community outreach. 💙

On Monday, June 8th, we returned to The Stanwich Club for our 17th Annual ONSF Golf Outing, where perfect weather made for a beautiful day on the course. Guests enjoyed lunch on the Terrace before heading out for a shotgun start, and later, additional guests joined the golfers for a relaxed cocktail hour and dinner reception. It was a warm and welcoming gathering of friends, colleagues, and supporters who share our commitment to advancing orthopedic care and improving patient outcomes.

For more than seventeen years, the generosity of our community has strengthened every part of the Foundation’s work. Your continued support has allowed ONSF to grow, evolve, and expand its impact in clinical research, medical education, and community outreach. We are deeply grateful for the trust you place in our mission and for the partnership that has carried us forward year after year.

This ongoing support has also made it possible for us to take an exciting step in our educational mission. This year, we proudly introduced the ONSF Orthopedic Surgical Fellowship, officially recognized by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). The fellowship allows us to mentor exceptional young surgeons during the most transformative stage of their training and reflects our commitment to advancing the future of orthopedic care.

On May 26th, ONSF was honored to host Dr. Paul Billings, a nationally recognized leader in longevity science, for an illuminating fireside conversation with award‑winning journalist Joan Lunden. With more than fifty attendees joining us, the event explored the rapidly evolving landscape of longevity and health span, examining what is grounded in science, what is emerging, and what truly matters as we think about aging well. The conversation offered a thoughtful look at how these developments are shaping the future of aging and long‑term health.

As longevity becomes a more personal and actionable topic for many, Dr. Billings highlighted the growing importance of preserving strength, mobility, cognitive acuity, and independence across the decades ahead. His insights offered clarity in a field often crowded by trends and noise, helping our community better understand how the human genome is influencing future healthcare.

This inaugural lecture marks the beginning of a curated ONSF series designed to bring scientific rigor, discernment, and practical insight to topics that influence long‑term health and quality of life. Creating access to conversations like this reflects our commitment to advancing knowledge, elevating clinical understanding, and supporting the next generation of orthopedic leaders, including through our ASES approved Orthopedic Surgical Fellowship program where exceptional young surgeons are mentored during the most transformative stage of their training.
