Furman University Graduate Studies Ranked the best liberal arts college in South Carolina by U.S. News & World Report, Furman offers a variety of graduate degree programs.

Our focused programs offer courses and experiences designed to advance students personally and professionally. Furman University offers graduate opportunities in several educational areas:
† Master of Arts Degree - Within the master of arts program in education, degree concentrations are available in school leadership, literacy, special education (emotional/behavioral disorders, learning disabilities), teaching English to speakers of other languages, early childhood education, as well as curriculum and instruction.
† Educational Specialist Degree (Superintendent’s Certification) - This degree is a post-master’s degree program for experienced teachers, school and district administrators, and other educators, who seek to develop their potential and competencies; who are committed to the improvement of PK-12 education, especially at the school and district level; and who aspire to be lifelong researchers and leaders in their organizations.
† Plus 30 - Furman University currently offers required coursework toward +30 hours above a master’s degree in School Leadership, Literacy, and TESOL.

Being a father and full-time educator, Matthew Smith M'26 was concerned with how he was going to balance his workload while in the M.A.Ed. in Literacy program. His concerns were met with relief when he saw that Furman's M.A.Ed. programs are offered completely online, making it easy to complete his work from anywhere. Smith's time in the program grew his leadership skills and expanded his teaching knowledge.
