**WEATHER UPDATE**

UPDATED ON SUNDAY, FEB. 1 AT 5:02 p.m.

Furman University will reopen Monday, February 2 at 12:00PM.

Employees should plan to return to work at that time. If employees feel they cannot safely return to work, they should contact their supervisors.

In-person classes will resume at 12:30 PM. Faculty may elect to conduct remote instruction for morning classes. Likewise, faculty who teach in the afternoon and are unable to get to campus safely may also elect to teach remotely.

We understand that some students may still be facing challenges due to the winter storm. Students who are unable to return or may be delayed should email [email protected] and notify their professors.

Students will receive a separate update from Student Life with additional updates regarding campus services, hours, and resources.

Temperatures will continue to drop below freezing in the evening and early morning hours over the next few days, potentially creating icy conditions on roads and walkways. Please continue to exercise caution as you move around campus.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our campus community.

UPDATED ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 22 AT 8:54 p.m.:

Due to the impending winter storm, Furman University will be closed from Saturday, Jan. 24, through Monday, Jan. 26. All classes and on-campus events are cancelled during this time.

According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, 0.5-0.75 inches of ice accumulation is expected, along with a wintry mix of rain, snow, and sleet. These conditions are likely to cause treacherous travel and widespread power outages across the Upstate.

We are announcing this closure now so that students and families have time to make plans ahead of the storm.

The Dining Hall will remain open for students only with limited hours. Any adjustments to the hours of operations will be communicated directly to students each day.

Saferide will not be operating on Saturday or Sunday night. Please call Furman Police if you need an on-campus es**rt.

Student Life will send additional details regarding campus services and resources for students.

The Emergency Response Team will continue to monitor the weather in consultation with the National Weather Service and public safety officials. We will provide urgent updates as necessary and will send another update regarding plans for next Tuesday no later than Sunday at 4 p.m.

For updates, visit our news page and follow on Furman’s social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and X. Students, faculty and staff will receive text and email alerts in emergency situations.

Decisions about the University’s operations in the face of weather are made after careful deliberation. The Emergency Response Team relies on information from several sources and considers many perspectives. The safety and well-being of students and employees always comes first.

Register at mentoring.furman.edu to share your experience and knowledge in a 30-minute Career Conversation.

“I enjoy helping students connect their interests and strengths to real-world opportunities. It's rewarding to see them gain clarity and confidence and to know that a single conversation can make a lasting impact on their career journey. I love helping students with their career paths because I remember how overwhelming career decisions can be at that stage. I want to share what I’ve learned and help provide the guidance that I wish I had at that time in my own life to help give students confidence about their career decision making and their future.”
