On Friday, July 24, Meriwether County Schools kicked off the 2026–2027 school year with our annual Kickoff Celebration. The event brought together faculty and staff from across the district for an afternoon of inspiration, recognition, and celebration as we prepared for an exciting new school year.

We were honored to welcome guest speakers Mrs. Rachel Kinsaul, Georgia's 2026 Teacher of the Year, and Mrs. Charm Mapp, Georgia's 2027 Teacher of the Year, who shared encouraging messages about the impact educators have on the lives of students every day.

During the celebration, we proudly recognized our School Teachers and Paraprofessionals of the Year:

Wanda Elliott – Mountain View Elementary School Paraprofessional of the Year
Dr. Marquita Pierce – Unity Elementary School Teacher of the Year
James Fordham – Greenville Middle School Teacher of the Year
Tonya Stika – Greenville Middle School Paraprofessional of the Year
Jason Watts – Manchester Middle School Teacher of the Year
Vivian White – Manchester Middle School Paraprofessional of the Year

We also announced our district winners. Kaylee Evans was named the 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year, and Vivian White was named the 2025–2026 Paraprofessional of the Year.

🏆 Unity Elementary School, led by Mr. Alston, was recognized as a Georgia's Literacy Leader: Elevating Achievement Through Literacy, honoring the school's outstanding commitment to helping students grow as confident readers and lifelong learners.

🏆 Greenville Middle School, led by Mr. Perry, received recognition as a Master of Mathematics: Elevating Achievement Through Mathematics, celebrating the school's dedication to excellence in mathematics instruction and student achievement.

🏆 Manchester Middle School, led by Dr. Short, earned two prestigious recognitions:
📚 Georgia's Literacy Leader: Elevating Achievement Through Literacy
⭐ Advancing Achievement School, in recognition of advancing student achievement and meeting the exit criteria for federal identification.

These honors reflect the dedication, collaboration, and hard work of our principals, teachers, staff, students, and families. Their commitment to academic excellence continues to make a lasting impact on the students of Meriwether County Schools.
