Just finished this short book of essays by children’s book author Mac Barnett. It is funny and conversational, but also poignant in an age in which it seems that every activity we do with children must teach a lesson in character or skill. Barnett argues that children’s literature should be joyful, with no agenda other than the enjoyment of reading. His ideas show genuine respect for the intelligence of children. Worth a read!

Tonight The Bees celebrated the end of their Bee Project with a celebration of learning. It was a special time of seeing their visions come to life after lots of planning and many ideas! Celebrating our learning is an important part of The Project Approach as it brings to light just how much the children learn throughout the process.

It's Dins Day! For almost 21 years I have had the honor of being part of Furman CDC as a teacher, director, and for three years as a parent. The Furman Child Development Center is a unique school and a haven for childhood. Our highly educated teaching staff are masters at early childhood education and put their hearts and souls into the work they do. Last year we celebrated 50 years of Furman CDC - let's make it 50 more. You can give to the Child Development Center fund by designating your gift.

We might BEE a little BUZZY with our Bee Project. Our Home Living center is now a garden with beehives and beekeepers. There is even a gift shop where we can sell our bee products. Imaginative play helps children explore concepts and ideas that they wonder about. The vocabulary learned and used and the skills practiced are authentic experiences in this environment.
