Greetings Wintergreen Families,
I hope this message finds you well and that everyone enjoyed a wonderful summer! This is Dr. Briney, Principal of Wintergreen Schools, with your Wintergreen Weekly updates.
We are thrilled to officially kick off the 2026-2027 school year tomorrow. A BIG thank you to all who joined us for Open House this past Thursday. The hugs, smiles, and excitement we saw from our students made it clear that they are ready to be back in the classroom and ready to learn!
Morning Arrival & Car Line Reminders
Doors open at 7:25 AM
Tardy Bell rings at 7:50 AM
We understand the start of gthe school year can be quiet busy, therefore, tardies will offically begin on Monday, September 14th. With that said, tardies will be recorded for any student arriving on campus past 8:30 AM starting Monday, August 24th.
Car riders in the Kiss and Go lines (Primary and Intermediate) may begin exiting vehicles at 7:20 AM, once staff are on duty. Students should remain in cars until staff are present. Please put your car in park while students are unloading.
For safety, no left-hand turns are permitted into the Primary Entrance from 7:20–8:00 AM, Monday–Friday. We appreciate your cooperation, as this keeps our traffic flow smooth and safe.
Bus Lot: Parents may drop off students in the bus lot after 7:35 each morning unless a bus is unloading or is arriving late. At 7:50, students must enter at the office, and receive a tardy pass.
First Day of School
We know tomorrow will bring a mix of excitement and nerves for both children and parents. Families may walk students (K–5) to class during the first week of school. Overflow parking is available at Eastern Carolina Village and Farm Museum as well as across the street at the Alice Keene Community Center. If parking across the street, please us the crosswalk as the safety of our students and families is our top priority.
Beginning Monday, August 31st Wintergreen Schools will celebrate Independence Day as students will transition to class on their own, supported by our staff stationed throughout the hallways.
Bus Transportation
Our team has worked hard to provide bus numbers, stop locations, and estimated pickup/drop-off times. If you need help, please call the school and ask for Mrs. Kimberley Gilbert, Assistant Principal (WGP).
Please have students at their stop 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
Be prepared for buses to arrive up to 15 minutes after the listed time.
The first couple of week always comes with a few hiccups so we thank you in advance for your patience as drivers learn routes. If a stop is missed, please bring your child to school and notify our admin team so we can correct it quickly.
Reminder: We do not provide door-to-door transportation; all students must be at their designated stop.
Lanyards, Labels & Car Tags
Students should begin wearing the lanyards distributed at Open House tomorrow and every day moving forward. (If your child did not receive one, they will get it tomorrow.) Please label book bags, lunch boxes, and other items with first name, last name, and grade level.
I kindly ask that if your child forgets their lunch, bookbag, device, or anything of the sort please plan on delivering those items to school by 9:30 AM. Items dropped after 9:30 AM will not be accepted unless approved by administration.
Afternoon pickup requires a car hang tag. For safety, students will only be released to vehicles with tags. Without one, you will need to come into the office with identification in order to pick your child up. Afternoon walk-ups are not permitted; all pick-ups must take place in the Kiss and Go lane.
Student dismissal time is 2:30 PM. Students cannot be checked out during the last 20 minutes of school (after 2:10). The process of moving approximately 1,600 children in an orderly and safe manner is critical. For student safety and accountability, we ask that parents support this procedure.
Opening Day Photos
We’d love to see your smiling faces! Tomorrow, I’ll post a Welcome Back message on our Wintergreen Schools page. Please share your child’s first-day photo in the comments!
Holiday Reminder
School will be closed on Monday, September 7th for Labor Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 8th.
We thank you in advance for your understanding, patience, and grace as the opening week of school is always a busy and exciting time. With the intake and dismissal of more than 1,600 students, there may be a few delays and adjustments as we work to ensure that every child arrives and departs safely. We truly appreciate your support and partnership as we begin this school year together
We are excited to begin this journey with you and look forward to a fantastic year ahead!
