South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities

Our summer Music Govies in the Composition and Songwriting program had the opportunity to compose scores for animated short films they selected and to compose music for our instructors to perform. The final recorded pieces were presented on the big screen in Smith Recital Hall for family and friends! Students who had never played a string instrument before were writing music for string parts as well as for other instruments. How cool is that?!

These aspiring songwriters did a fantastic job and learned so much!

We had an awesome first week with our summer Govies! Across the board, we've seen these students SHINE, diving straight in and giving it their all! We're looking forward to what's to come this week!

Wishing our first batch of summer Music Govies a GREAT summer after completing a FANTASTIC week!

Our Composition and Songwriting students honed their skills as creatives, working individually and and in collaboration with their peers on original pieces of music. The Vocal students spent their days engaged and immersed in classes on vocal technique, physical and vocal warm-ups, and more. The Jazz program built confidence in their instruments and as an ensemble while growing their knowledge of jazz history, theory, and improvisation.

They showed off all they learned to friends and family in their amazing closing performances! Great work, everyone, and thank you for coming!

Today we honor freedom, and recognize the enduring contributions of Black Americans to our nation.

Our first week of Summer Music Programs is in full swing! 🎶

This week, we welcomed talented students from across the state to campus for immersive experiences in Composition & Songwriting, Voice, and Jazz. Throughout the week, they’ve been learning from our outstanding music faculty, collaborating with fellow musicians, and expanding their musical knowledge and artistic skills.

Our Summer Dance Govies kicked off the week with a field trip to our favorite local dance store, The Sock Basket!

They stocked up on all the essentials a young dancer could need—leotards, shoes, tights, and more! It's going to be an exciting five weeks!

Our Summer Govies brought campus back to life as they hit the ground running with their new classes! We're excited to have them here and look forward to a fun and engaging week! ☀️
