Alston Cobourn and Kristen Daniel of Joyner Library along with Dr Kirsten Squint of the English Department presented on the
history and signifigance of the Neyuherú·kęʼ Wampum Belt, gifted to East Carolina University in 2013.
Participants had the opportunity to view the Neyuherú·kęʼ Wampum Belt, which is usually stored in the Special Collections Division of ECU’s Academic Library Services.

Allan is the Chief Information Officer for the NC Department of Commerce. He has been with the department since 2007, holding multiple technology-oriented positions during his tenure.
Allan represents the NC Department of Commerce on the state’s Geographic Information Coordinating Council and has served as the representative to the State Government User Committee’s executive team. He is on the technology committee of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies, which provides strategic guidance to states so they can improve workforce development outcomes by leveraging information technology.

John is a Professor of Management Information Systems and Director of the Center for AI in Business at East Carolina University. He leads interdisciplinary efforts to help organizations move beyond AI experimentation toward measurable business impact.
Dr. Drake developed the College of Business’s first AI strategy course, Leading Organizations Through the AI Revolution, guiding students as they engage with industry partners in AI readiness and workforce transformation. Through the Center for AI in Business, Dr. Drake leads applied research initiative on industry AI best practices, builds executive education workshops on AI governance, and develops AI-driven training applications.

Maria is the Public Sector Executive Strategist for Wiz. In this role, she brings over 20 years of experience in information technology, strategic planning, computer network defense, and risk management. Prior to her role with Wiz, Maria served as the State and Local Government Executive Government Advisor for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and was North Carolina’s first State Chief Risk and Security Officer. She is also a military veteran having served 20 years in the United States Marine Corps.

Keynote Speaker, Bill Bales of Microsoft will be speaking on "AI Strategy: From Awareness to Organizational Readiness"
Bill has an extensive background in the Education Technology industry with over 23 years of experience in product management, program and portfolio management and organizational transformation. He represents Microsoft’s Responsible AI program for his division.
Most recently, he directs the strategy for Microsoft’s Education business and helps customers within this industry realize value for the investments they make with their technology. His customers are some of the forerunners with AI including new product launches that integrate with Copilot, and Azure AI services.

President, Institute for Defense and Business (IDB)
Lieutenant General William Mark Faulkner is the President of the Institute for Defense and Business (IDB). He was most recently the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Marine Corps Association.
A graduate of East Carolina University, General Faulkner was commissioned in 1982 and initially served as an infantry officer with 1st Battalion, 6th Marines. After receiving a lateral move to the logistics operational field, he served and commanded as a logistics officer at all levels to include command of Combat Logistics Regiment 27 and MEU Service Support Group 26 during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
