💚 This week, we’re celebrating the intentionality happening inside our classrooms at Berea Middle! 👏🐾
✨ Anchor charts that are instructional tools—not just decorations on the wall!
✨ Accessible, extremely organized classroom materials so scholars know what they need and where to find it.
✨ Social contracts that help create classrooms built on shared expectations, respect, and accountability.
✨ Intentional seating arrangements and tables labeled with science vocabulary—because every space can support learning!
✨ And a clear use of the agenda…if it’s in PINK, write it in your agenda!

🏆 None of these things happen by accident. The small details matter. The way we organize our spaces, establish expectations, reinforce vocabulary, and create systems for scholars all communicate the same message:

🫶🏾 Learning is intentional here. We are prepared here. And every scholar belongs here.
Keep noticing the details. Keep raising the bar. Keep doing the work that makes a difference every single day.

📚 Our scholars aren’t just reading—they’re annotating, marking the text, collecting data, thinking critically, and using interactive notebooks to make their learning visible. Every highlight, note, question, graph, and reflection is part of the process!

📖 This is what meaningful, engaged, rigorous work looks like: scholars actively interacting with content, organizing their thinking, and building the skills they need to own their learning.

📱 Drop the phone. Pick up a book. Change your future. 📚

💚 We talk a lot about giving our kids more opportunities—but one of the simplest things they can do starts with just 10–20 minutes of reading each night.

The numbers are powerful:
📖 20 minutes a day can expose a child to approximately 1.8 MILLION words in a year.

⏰ Even 10 minutes a day adds up to hundreds of thousands of words and significantly more reading practice over time.

📚 More reading builds:
✨ Vocabulary
✨ Background knowledge
✨ Reading comprehension
✨ Writing skills
✨ Critical thinking

🧠 And those skills don't just help on an English test. They impact EVERY subject. Strong literacy opens doors to advanced coursework, college and scholarship opportunities, career options, job applications, workplace success—and ultimately, more choices in life.

📊 Research consistently shows a positive relationship between reading volume and reading achievement, vocabulary, and comprehension. And while 20 minutes is a great goal, 10 minutes is still better than zero. Start somewhere. Build the habit. Let it grow.

🧠 Today, our teachers took a deep dive into AVID’s Critical Reading Process, reviewing the three phases and then putting their learning into action.

🧏🏽‍♀️ They didn’t just talk about the process—they engaged with a text, practiced the strategies, and applied their knowledge as learners themselves.

💪🏿 Because if we want our scholars to become stronger readers, thinkers, and communicators, we have to first experience the learning ourselves.

💻 Tuesday: ALEKS — focused math skill practice

📝 Wednesday: NoRedInk — targeted ELA skill practice

💚 This is what intentional instruction looks like: identifying the skills our scholars need, giving them meaningful practice, and using every minute we have to move learning forward.
No wasted time. No wasted opportunities. Just purposeful practice and progress.

🎉 FALVEY’S FRIDAY SHOUT OUTS! 🎉

💚 This week, we’re celebrating the teachers who understand that the classroom itself is a teacher!

🏆 Our focus this week: Appropriate Physical Environment (one of AVID’s Foundations of Instruction)

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 From intentional seating that encourages collaboration, to anchor charts and academic vocabulary that students can actually use, to organized materials and college- and career-focused spaces—our classrooms should communicate “You belong here, you are capable, and we are preparing you for what’s next.”

🧠 A powerful learning environment doesn’t happen by accident. Every wall, every desk, every resource, and every visual should have a purpose.

👏🏿 Shout out to our staff who are creating spaces where scholars can learn, collaborate, access what they need, see themselves as learners, and envision their future!

💪🏿 What an incredible start to the school year at Berea Middle! Seeing our scholars walking through the doors excited to learn, laughing with friends, reconnecting with teachers, and simply being happy to be here is exactly what we hoped for.

🧏🏽‍♀️ Behind every smile is a teacher who cares. A staff member who believes. A family who supports. And a school community committed to making sure every scholar knows: You belong here. You are capable. You are loved. You matter.

🥺 We know the first days of school set the tone for the year—and our Bulldogs are already showing us that this is going to be a special one.

💚 The first day back isn’t just about schedules, procedures, and finding your way to class—it’s about connection.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 Today, our Bulldogs took time to build relational capacity with one another through an activity designed to help us learn more about the people we work alongside, strengthen connections, and remind ourselves that relationships are at the heart of everything we do.

🫶🏾 Because before we can teach, lead, support, and challenge one another, we have to know one another.

🏆 A strong school community doesn’t happen by accident—it’s built one relationship at a time.
