πŸŽ‰ Legends are built through hard work, perseverance, high expectations, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to excellence!

We are incredibly proud to announce that Innovation Early College High School earned an A school grade and Exceeded Growth for the 2025–2026 school year! IECHS achieved a 99.3% achievement rate, and our School Performance Score increased an impressive 8 points, growing from 89 to 97!

These outstanding results were built through the collective dedication of our entire school community. Our students embraced challenges, worked hard, and remained committed to excellence. Our teachers and support staff set high expectations, created meaningful learning experiences, and provided the encouragement and support students needed to succeed.

Our families reinforced those expectations and encouraged students every step of the way. Our partnership with East Carolina University continues to provide our students with rigorous college-level opportunities, valuable resources, and a supportive environment in which they can grow as both high school and college students.

Every student, staff member, family, and partner played a role in this accomplishment. This is what it looks like when Legends Are Built!

Congratulations, Kraken family! πŸ’œπŸ’›

πŸ“š Attendance Matters at IECHS! πŸ’œπŸ’›

Every day in school is an opportunity to learn, connect, grow, and build toward the future. When students are present and on time, they stay connected to instruction, collaborative learning, their teachers, and their peers.

At IECHS, our students balance the expectations of high school and college coursework, making consistent attendance especially important. Missing even a few days can make it difficult to keep pace with learning and assignments.

🏫 Be here. Be on time. Be ready to learn.

Every day matters. Every class matters. Legends show up!

🌟 Student Leadership Spotlight: Aldo Hernandez Guerra 🌟

Meet Aldo Hernandez Guerra, Senior Class President!

For Aldo, leadership is about more than making decisions. It’s about listening, taking responsibility, and making sure others feel heard. As Senior Class President, he is committed to representing the ideas and dreams of his classmates while creating a culture where every student feels comfortable sharing their voice.

Aldo hopes to leave a legacy of leadership built on the willingness β€œto see, to hear, and to act.”

We are proud to spotlight Aldo and the leadership he brings to IECHS!

πŸ’œπŸ’› Student Leaders in Action!

We are so thankful for our student leaders who took time out of their day off from Innovation classes to come in and model a Collaborative Study Group (CSG) for our staff!

Our goal is to embed Collaborative Study Groups across all classrooms, giving students structured opportunities to ask questions, think critically, collaborate, and learn from one another.

Following the demonstration, our teachers had the opportunity to ask students questions and hear their feedback about what makes a CSG effective. Their student perspective will help our teachers think intentionally about how to structure CSGs within their own classrooms.

We love seeing our students have a voice in shaping teaching and learning at IECHS!

πŸ›οΈ The Reset: Building Government From the Ground Up

Mr. Fussell’s Civics students recently presented their PBL projects to an authentic audience after taking on the challenge of creating their own governments from the ground up!

Guided by the essential question, β€œWhy should anyone agree to be governed?”, students developed a form of government, system of government, and economic system. They then pitched and defended their decisions using their understanding of power, authority, legitimacy, sovereignty, and politics.

This experience challenged students to think critically, apply their learning, communicate clearly, and defend their ideas in front of a real audience.

A special thank-you to our incredible panelists for sharing their expertise and providing our students with thoughtful questions and feedback: Ms. Kea, K–12 Social Studies Specialist and AP Coordinator for Pitt County Schools; Dr. Brown, Director of School Improvement for Pitt County Schools, former middle and high school social studies teacher, former PCS principal, and holder of a doctorate in social studies education; Dr. Huffman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education; and Dr. Francia, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Survey Research at East Carolina University.

This is what learning looks like when students are given the opportunity to create, defend, reflect, and revise.
