Bob Jones University Africa Team

For many years BJU has sent ministry teams overseas in the summers and occasionally over the Christmas break. They were originally under the leadership of Carl and Linda Abrams, members of the BJU history faculty. The earliest teams usually went to Kenya, with occasional forays into South Africa (Johannesburg and Cape Town). These teams were quite successful in introducing team members to missions

work in a realistic way and, in many cases, encouraging them to consider seriously God's call to foreign missions. Several of them became foreign missionaries. In 2007 the Abramses asked Dan Olinger, a member of the BJU Bible faculty, to consider taking on the leadership of the Africa teams. Since then teams have gone in 2007 (4 weeks in the Kenyan bush; 2 weeks at Camp Lukenya, nearer Nairobi; 1 week in Johannesburg; and 1 week in Cape Town), 2010 (4 weeks in Kitwe, Zambia; 4 weeks at Camp Lukenya), and 2013 (5 weeks in Wa, Ghana; half the team 2 weeks in Cameroon, the other half at Tumaini Children's Home in Mwanza, Tanzania; and 2 weeks in Cape Town). Plans are underway for a shorter trip (5 weeks) to Tumaini in the summer of 2014.
