Washington School Washington School has a proud tradition of offering a quality education and nurturing environment to generations of students for over 50 years.

The school was formed in 1969 when citizens saw the need for a local college preparatory school. Since then, Washington School has continuously built upon its reputation of being a leader in academic excellence in Mississippi.

Today, we welcomed special visitors from the Leland-Deer Creek Garden Club, who brought monarch butterflies in the caterpillar stage to our school. Patti Livingston and Gwin Cumbaa read the Dr. Seuss book “My, Oh My—A Butterfly! All About Butterflies” and taught students in grades 1, 2, and 3 about the life cycle of a butterfly. The students had the opportunity to observe the caterpillars up close. Over the next few days, all Lower School students will be able to visit the caterpillars in the STEM Lab as they prepare to transform into chrysalises and eventually emerge as beautiful butterflies. We love having visitors, especially grandmothers, come to our school to teach our students! 🦋

Our fifth graders were the first group to go on a field trip this school year. They visited the Bologna Performing Arts Center in Cleveland to hear author Matt Phelan as part of the Delta KidsNote program, which is sponsored by Delta Health Alliance and the Mississippi Book Festival. The children listened to the author talk about his book, “Leave It to Plum!”, had the opportunity to meet him, and each received a book to take home. We love taking our students on educational field trips that enhance their experiences. 📚
