Students from the Maritime Studies Program have been working on a Motorboat Operators Certification Course (MOCC). It's a Department of the Interior course that all their employees are required to take. Today they worked on basic water rescue skills like trying out life jackets and doing rescues, then went out to VOA and did knot tying, firefighting, tried out some flares, and practiced backing up with trailers. We will be posting more pictures as they continue with their certification!

This weekend the maritimers at East Carolina University are working on their Advanced Open Water (AOW) Certifications at Mystery Lake Scuba Park. Getting AOW allows students to go deeper and opens up more opportunities to do research on different sites. The skills learned in AOW teaches students to accomplish tasks in a new type of environment and prepares them to handle underwater stressors with greater composure.
