Tantrums are not usually a sign that a young child is being intentionally difficult.

🧠In early childhood, the parts of the brain responsible for managing emotions, controlling impulses, and thinking through situations are still developing. Children can experience very big feelings without yet having the language or self-regulation skills to manage them independently. Hunger, tiredness, frustration, changes in routine, and difficulty communicating can quickly become overwhelming.😨

During a tantrum, try to keep your words simple, your voice calm, and come down to the child’s level. Rather than trying to reason with them in the height of the moment, focus first on helping them feel safe, understood, and calm. Once the emotion has passed, you can talk together about what happened *(even if they are not talking yet) and what they can try next time.

Children learn how to regulate their emotions through repeated calm support from trusted adults.

🗨Young children learn best when words are simple, meaningful, and connected to what is happening around them. Throughout the day, name familiar objects, actions, and people as your child sees or experiences them.

When your child uses a word, build on it. If they say “car,” you might respond, “Yes, a blue car!” or “The car is going fast!” This helps introduce new words without making the interaction feel like a test.
It is also important to pause and give your child time to respond. Young children often need a few extra seconds to process what they heard, think of a word, and decide how to communicate it.

Talking, listening, repeating, and responding during ordinary moments all help build strong early language skills.🌱

Tummy time may look like simple floor play, but it plays an important role in infant development. 🌱

Spending short, supervised periods on their tummy helps babies strengthen the muscles in their neck, shoulders, arms, back, and core. These muscles support future milestones such as rolling, sitting, crawling, and eventually walking.

Some babies may only tolerate a minute or two at first—and that is okay! Try placing a favorite toy, mirror, or familiar face nearby and slowly build up the amount of time.

⚠️Always practice tummy time while your baby is awake and closely supervised.

🍼 Caring for baby dolls may look like simple play, but it supports so much learning! As children feed, bathe, dress, and comfort their babies, they build empathy, communication, problem-solving, and nurturing skills. Fastening clothes, wrapping blankets, and handling small accessories also strengthen fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

At Children’s World Learning Center, meaningful play helps children care for others, express themselves, and build important skills for everyday life!

"I want to do it!!"
The desire to do everything independently is a normal and important part of development for 2-year-olds. 🌱

At this age, children are beginning to recognize that they are capable individuals with their own ideas and preferences. Allowing them to complete safe, age-appropriate tasks helps build confidence, coordination, decision-making skills, and independence.

Try letting your child carry their cup, place clothes in the hamper, choose between two outfits, or attempt to put on their shoes.
It may take longer, but the extra time gives them valuable practice. ☺️
