This spring's major collaborative production, "Hadestown: Teen Edition," by Anais Mitchell, was INCREDIBLE!!!! Directed by Drama instructor Erin Gill, the performance featured Dance, Drama and Music students—52 to be exact—who served in the massive ensemble and in the production crew. The Governor's School's version of the Tony Award-winning musical took a Midwestern spin, with a cactus-filled set surrounding a 13-foot-tall longhorn skull, bespoke costumes and 3-D-printed props. Tickets sold out the day the box office opened!
Such outstanding work would not have been possible without the collective dedication and talent of our faculty, students and production team! WELL DONE, GOVIES! 👏🙌👏🙌

The first annual Century Cycle Continues High School Monologue Competition was held on February 28th in our Smith Recital Hall. Ten high school finalists from across the state gave stellar performances. Congratulations to Ava Weber from the Fine Arts Center for winning first place!
As a part of the competition, four of our Drama seniors—Sadie Bridges, Ella Burns, Teagan Johnson and Justyce Swatzell—competed for the Annie Edge Scholarship. All four Govies did an excellent job, and Teagan won the $5,000 scholarship.
It was such a pleasure to partner with Drama alum Danielle Brooks ('07) on this exciting event, which brought several alumni back to campus! Brandon Micheal Hall ('11) and Teyonah Parris ('05) served as judges, and Stacey Scott ('05) led warm-up exercises for competitors. It was a very special day for the participants, our school and our Drama Department!

Quiet on the set! 🎬️
Over the past few weeks, Sakas Theatre has been temporarily transformed to become the Film and Drama Departments' studio —Drama students are acting in Film students' senior projects. The talented Governor's School production crew constructed the footprint of the first floor of a house to serve as the set. Over the course of the project, the "house" will be redressed and repainted four times to reflect changes across the 1920s, 1960s, 2000s, and 2080s!
