TASC is excited to announce that we will be hosting the National Conference on Student Activities in Memphis, TN this upcoming December 6-8th. The theme is “The Heart & Soul of Leadership.” The conference is designed to equip student council advisors all across the nation. Many of you have played a vital part of our TASC organization over the years, so we invite you to join us in making this conference happen right here in our backyard. So how can you help?

Two ways:
1. We have multiple decorations, logistical supplies, and door prizes to purchase. So you can make a donation to our TASC PayPal account: PayPal.me/TASCOfficial. If there are extra funds left after the conference, then we will place those funds in the TASC Project Leadership Fund that was established to assist students in the state of Tennessee to attend leadership opportunities throughout their middle/high school career.

2. Or…you can go SHOPPING! That’s right! Check out our Amazon Wish List that includes specific items needed for the conference. Items include markers and poster boards to Tennessee decorations to inflatable guitars and a life-size cardboard cut-out of Elvis!

So whether you are a TASC alumni or a student council advisor or a parent of a student who appreciates the work that TASC has been doing for decades in training student leaders, thank you for partnering with us! Let’s turn up the music for the “Heart & Soul of Leadership.”

Mac Attack-ing Hunger Across Wilson County
In May of 2022, Wilson Central High School’s student council initiated a fundraiser called “Mac Attack.” Created by advisor Jennifer Bettag, Mac Attack aims to fight hunger in the homeless community of the Nashville area. By encouraging students to bring in a prevalent household food item, instant mac and cheese cups, participation was far more widespread across the county compared to previous charity events hosted by the school.
While instant mac and cheese is not what one might first think of in regards to combating hunger among the homeless, these quick meals are actually one of the most sought after food items by shelters. These items last longer than most other perishable foods donated, they provide a warm meal that’s not possible with most other donated items, and are easy-to-make meals that only require water and heat. Our local food bank also uses these for the students involved in the summer food program, and they were at a critical low of these during this time.
In order to help as many unhoused citizens as possible, Wilson Central Student Council decided to extend the fundraiser to other schools in the county. These schools competed against Wilson Central to collect the most mac and cheese cups. We had a total of five schools compete. A competitive edge added to the charity not only helped the participating schools collaboration, but it also raised school morale while also adding thousands more mac and cheese cups to the drive.
At the end of the competition, Wilson Central won the competition with over 2,000 cups donated to our schools alone. Countywide over 4,000 cups were collected. This charity boosted connections with other student councils in the county, but also gave a way for students in Wilson County to become more involved in charities. This way the community creates a cycle of kindness and to help those in need.
