Jessica Adams, Director of the Carteret County Department of Social Services, and Harriot College alumna (BS Applied Sociology, '07), and current ECU Master of Public Administration (MPA) student, recently received the Bridge Builder Award at the South Central Regional THRive Local Awards Luncheon hosted by Trillium Health Resources. The award honors individuals who foster collaboration across agencies to strengthen local services and better serve their communities.
Adams was recognized for her leadership in connecting health and human services systems and in helping to improve coordination and access to care for Carteret County residents. Through her efforts, Adams has enhanced individuals' and families' access to critical mental health and disability support services, streamlining resources across the region.

Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences alumnus Trey Lewis (’16, ’18) was recognized during today’s visit with the Chancellor’s Coin for his continued commitment to the success of and eastern North Carolina.
A new $6.5 million federal investment will help expand its Eastern Region Pharma Center with industry-aligned biomanufacturing equipment, enhanced teaching labs and workforce training to support employers across eastern North Carolina.
U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis and wife Susan Tillis visited the center today alongside ECU alumnus Trey Lewis (’16, ’18) to see how ECU is contributing to the region’s growing pharmaceutical workforce and research infrastructure.

This spring, students in Carla Pastor’s English class organized a book donation project designed to support literacy among young students in the community and provide resources to help them understand and navigate experiences of loss.
The class distributed the book, "Where Is Mykal?," to 25 schools and nonprofit organizations throughout Greenville. The book honors the memory of a rising sophomore who passed away in 2023.
