Today, we spent the morning at Marcoot Jersey Creamery in Greenville, IL with the always entertaining Laura Wall!

With the comedic timing of a vaudeville performer, Laura shared the history of the multi-generation farm and how the farm has adapted over time to become a full production facility for fresh and aged cheeses, ice cream, Dog-Os Cheesy Chompers, and ice cream for dogs!

After touring the milking parlor and its robotic milking system, we visited the calf barn and this season’s friendly babies.

Laura took us back inside the creamery to sample cheeses, dish up ice cream, and answer questions.

We’ve had a wild week! The CEO Class of 2027 has rolled with surprise changes to their business concept, family emergencies, tough discussions, sickness, and even an emergency surgery!

Yet, their commitment to each other and the process continues.

Through all of the bumps in the road, these remarkable students keep chasing their goal and have experienced the depths of a word we often use… PIVOT.

As we approach the deadline for presenting our formal business plan, bumps in the road are inconvenient, but not detrimental. They are to be overcome.

Like many business owners and entrepreneurs, we find a creative, but logical path forward. We pivot and never give up.

This week students will finish the rough draft of their formal business plan.

Teams are actively researching competitors, creating marketing plans, pricing equipment, sourcing supplies, and more.

We are thoroughly impressed with their hard work, dedication, and creativity… AND their team work!

Group projects can be a drag. However, this group continues to grow closer together while lifting each other up.

CEO isn’t a magic spell. It is motivation, intention, dedicated time, empowerment, and support.

Casual Friday after a long, hard week of work on our Class Business concepts!

We started our day at the Greenville Smart Building (shoutout to Greenville University for hosting us!). Then changed our location to the Greenville Visitors Center where our Operations, Finance, and Operations teams got back to work under the leadership of our CEO.

These students developed their concept on their own, with very limited guidance from our Facilitator or outside help. They are building, researching, and gather the facts needed for their formal business plans on their own.

It’s an incredible thing to see.

Lately, Team Days are class times where we work collectively on developing our Group Business.

Our students come up with a unique business concept, research the industry, create a budget, develop marketing plans, and assemble a formal business plan to present to our Bond County CEO Board of Directors.

Students are organized in three groups: finance, marketing, and operations. Our Group Business CEO Wyatt Orender rotates around the groups to share knowledge, answer questions, support others, offer suggestions, and keep the project moving forward to their goal.

And they have fun doing it!

Thanks to Dusty, Chris, and Emily from Bradford National Bank’s lending team for spending the morning with us!

We talked about commercial and personal lending, finance, good money habits, and the importance of credit.

As an alum of CEO, Emily started us off strong with the 5 C’s of Credit. Chris and Dusty answered as many questions as our CEO students could come up.

We certainly know much more about lending and credit than we did yesterday! Thanks BNB!

Elaine shared her career path and the work she does as the Economic Development Director for the City of Greenville, IL.

She shared about incentives, tax districts, grants, and the process of recruiting business for Greenville.

If you know her, you know she’s not just smart and funny… She’s cool!
