This page is intended as a point of access for individuals with implantable cardioverter defibrillators to participate in a survey for a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card. The research based on these survey responses will be conducted by Dr. Linda Freeman and Dr. Keith Richards. Dr. Freeman and Dr. Richards are Assistant Professors at East Carolina University. The purpose of this research is to
better understand how individuals with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) use social media to gather information and find support. By doing this research, I hope to learn how to better serve ICD patients so that they have the knowledge and support that they need. Your participation is voluntary. You are being invited to take part in this research because you have an ICD. The amount of time it will take you to complete this study is 20-30 minutes. You are being asked to provide information about how you use social media to communicate about your experiences with ICD, such as communication with your doctor and with other patients, physical issues, number of shocks from the device and other concerns. Because this research is overseen by the ECU Institutional Review Board, some of its members or staff may need to review my research data. However, the information you provide will not be linked to you in any way. Your responses cannot be traced back to you by anyone, including me. Participants that have an ICD and complete the survey will be eligible for a drawing of a $25 gift card. If you are eligible, after completing the survey you will be immediately linked to a completely separate survey where you can enter your personal information so you can be entered into the gift card drawing. There will be no link between your survey answers and personal information.
