🏎️💨💨 , LeMans style! 🏎️💨💨
Robert Babcock (@944.robertb) one of our AuE undergrads, sent in the awesome pics and bonus video of the pit lane exit for today and shared the following:
“This is my first time attending the 24H of LeMans. I have been wanting to go ever since I was a young kid and finally being able to go with one of my great friends was an amazing trip. Being able to go and see all of the different manufacturers show off their concept cars, recent production vehicles and unique experiences were all amazing.
I got to talk to a couple of the race teams like AO racing and learn more about what it takes to work on a full time endurance team.
I will be continuing my trip by heading to Porsche, Mercedes, and Audi over the next few days as I travel through Germany before heading home.”
Robert told us this experience has been inspiring and made him want to get more involved in Motorsports, and being part of AUE is helping him build those dreams and giving him hands on opportunities in and out of the classroom. Robert- thanks for sharing- we can’t wait to see where AuE and your passion for Motorsports takes you from here! 🏁

🥐 Bonjour les tigres! is feeling tres bien 🇫🇷
Charlie Stabler, a 2024 Automotive Engineering MS graduate, sent in this cool picture of himself posing under the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. We can’t deny the Tiger rag does have that certain je ne sais quoi ✨
We love to see all the places our Tigers go! DM us your Tiger rag photo if you want to be featured 📧

From the classroom —> the track. 🏁
Four Automotive Engineering students spent a week in May competing at the FSAE event at the Michigan International Speedway, where performance, engineering and technical knowledge were put to the test. Events like FSAE, hosted by , give students the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to while gaining valuable hands on experience in vehicle design and Motorsports engineering.
We are proud to see our Tigers representing the department pushing the limits of innovation on and off the track. The future of mobility starts here! 🏎️🐅

Taking a break from to show off our other favorite Tuesday tradition (besides Taco Tuesday of course), !
Today we have a 2023 Automotive Engineering MS, grad, Arnav Roy who was recently showing off his 🐅 pride at a MotoGP race in Jerez, Spain. We love seeing where life takes our AuE students after graduation!
DM us your Tiger Rag Tuesday pics if you want to show off where the power of the paw has taken you! 🧡🐯

Great food, even better company 🌅
Last Saturday night’s Automotive Engineering cookout was one for the books: good laughs, good vibes, perfect almost summer golden hour sunshine and a reminder that the best part of the journey is the people you share it with. Grateful for this crew and all the memories we’re building along the way. ✌️🧡🐯

Starting the week off with some good news: Luke Shannon has successfully passed his doctoral dissertation defense! Luke’s dissertation, “Modernizing Plastics and Composites Manufacturing Using Hybrid Modeling Techniques,” presents three integrated contributions to advance injection molding through hybrid modeling: a physics-constrained LSTM soft sensor framework for legacy tooling modernization, Manufacturing Asset Profiles (MAPs) that leverage sensor-derived calibration to improve Moldex3D melt flow simulation fidelity, and a Hidden Markov Model with Rule-Based Stochastic Decision-Making framework for energy prediction and life cycle assessment. His work demonstrated that combining physics-based and data-driven methods systematically outperformed either approach in isolation across key manufacturing outcomes.
The research was conducted under the advisement of Dr. Saeed Farahani and committee members Dr. Laine Mears, Dr. Ramy Harik, and Dr. Cheoljoon Jeong, with contributions developed in collaboration with industry partners Kistler and Moldex3D.
Congratulations, Luke! 🎓

Several weeks ago, we hosted the annual AuE Open House on the CUICAR campus where we had the opportunity to roll out the orange carpet for nearly 70 prospective students and their families! Tours, led by current students, gave guests a look inside our labs and facilities, and afterwards, they had the unique experience interacting with several student groups, , .purplegarage , , and that brought vehicles to display, all in one place!
The day was capped off by a catered lunch, enjoyed during a student Q&A panel composed of BS, MS and PhD students where visitors had the chance to ask questions about curriculum and student life in Automotive Engineering. Each student went home with some complimentary AuE swag, and some even took home custom stickers, too!
Thank you to the students that spent a Saturday with us to invest in their futures by learning about our academic programs and student groups! Thank you also to the faculty, staff, student groups and student representatives for made time on a busy weekend to help@showcase our department. These photos are the future of AuE, and the future is bright!
