Jessica Richter, ECU Department of Geography, Planning & Environment master’s alum, was a 2021-22 NC Space Grant - North Carolina Sea Grant Graduate Research Fellow. Richter used remotely sensed data sources to generate maps that capture estuarine shoreline erosion of the Neuse River Estuary.
Richter notes in an NC Space Grant student blog that this fellowship provided her with the opportunity to refine in-demand skills such as remote sensing data processing and analysis and science communication. Read more about her research and experience: https://ncspacegrant.ncsu.edu/2022/07/18/mapping-north-carolinas-vulnerable-estuarine-shorelines/
If you're interested in research like this, apply for the 2023-24 NC Space Grant - NC Sea Grant Graduate Research Fellowship! There are many research areas students can focus on in this fellowship using NASA and NOAA data and tools. Applications are due by 5pm on March 31!
