The Medical History Interest Group will present Dr. Megan Perry's "Little Bones, Big Stories: A Life History Approach to Children's Health in the Past" Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 3:30pm in the Evelyn Fike Laupus Gallery on Laupus Health Sciences Library at ECU's 4th floor.

In her lecture, Dr. Megan Perry, from East Carolina University’s Department of Anthropology, returns to the Medical History Interest Group to discuss her ongoing bioarchaeological research on children's health in the past. Building on her 2022 talk on morbidity and mortality in the ancient Near East, Perry will present new findings from her work on metabolic disease at the 19th-century site of Hisban, Jordan. Using a life history approach, she examines how skeletal remains of children can reveal broader patterns of nutrition, illness, and community health across time. Join us for an update on this evolving research and the stories these "little bones" continue to tell.

This presentation is part of the Ruth and John Moskop History of Medicine Lecture Series. All are welcome and refreshments will be provided.

Individuals requesting accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should contact the ADA Coordinator at least 48 hours prior to the event at 252-737-1018 (voice/TTY) / [email protected]

We have a new exhibit on view in the JH Faulkner Gallery at Joyner through the end of September.

The gallery is one of four venues hosting artwork by alumni of the ECU School of Art and Design. We received approximately 400 entries for this exhibition, making this a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work of East Carolina University's talented alumni community.

The venues are:

🏴‍☠️ Joyner Library’s JH Faulkner Gallery
🏴‍☠️ SOAD Gray Gallery
🏴‍☠️ Emerge Gallery (Pitt County Art Council)
🏴‍☠️ ECU Proctor Yongue House

The exhibition reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 8 pm, during Uptown Greenville ArtWalk.

We hope you’ll stop by, enjoy the artwork and celebrate the talented artists represented in this exciting exhibition.

This past April, Dr. Mary Huffman invited our own John Dunning and Patrick Cash, along with East Carolina University maritime archaeology PhD student Madeline Roth, and Trevor Freeman from the USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship to show future Pirate teachers from the ECU College of Education ways to bring history alive for their students.

ECU students toured the ship, participated in a scavenger hunt and learned from each of the experts about specific ways to approach teaching history.

And the partnership continues.

“We are doing this again on Sept 19 with Pitt County Schools social studies and science teachers!” Dunning said.
