On June 9 at 7pm, our Jazz Underground series features Adam Knight with his quintet paying tribute to guitarist Grant Green. When we do tribute concerts, it’s always interesting to learn about how our headliner developed a deep passion for the jazz master they are paying tribute to.

It probably helps to understand that in addition to being a guitarist, Adam is also a composer and an educator (teaching at both the University of South Carolina and at Clemson University). It also helps to know that, even with both a bachelors and a masters degrees in jazz performance, he also plays and composes rock, funk, and fusion music.

🎸 When we consider the music of Grant Green, a prolific composer, and a guitarist who played styles from hard bop to soul jazz to funk to latin…and is reputedly the most sampled guitarist…it makes a lot of sense why Adam was attracted to study and perform Grant’s music. So you should be able to hear that affinity clearly on Tuesday.

Joining Adam will be local musicians Shannon Hoover (bass), Keith Davis (piano), Tim Blackwell (drums), and Jeff Holland joining on percussion for the latin pieces.
