Communication is more than words!
For many children at the Meyer Center, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) provides a way to express what they’re thinking, feeling, wanting, and needing.
Imagine hearing your child say “I love you” or “I need help” for the first time through an AAC device. For families, those moments can be life-changing. And that’s the kind of access we want to make possible for every child who needs it.
In May, we created the Alexis Hanna Communication Access Fund in honor of Alexis Hanna, our longtime speech-language therapist. The fund will create an AAC Lending Library right here at the Meyer Center, giving teachers and therapists immediate access to a range of devices and tools they can trial with students to find what works best—without waiting for a device to be purchased or approved.
The full library will cost approximately $50,000, and we’re working to make it a reality.
