Today's meeting was fantastic!

The picture is of today's award winners.

Speaker.
Evaluator.
Table Topics participant.

We had three speakers who had an unintended theme of the power of words and their effect on us.

Words that build.
Words that break.
Words that challenge.
Words that empower.

We are all on a journey learn to share our stories.

This is an excellent club in which to belong as we ALL learn something applicable from every meeting ---- whether from the speaker or from one of the other roles.

Words are powerful!

Come visit us! Experience this camaraderie first hand and grow in your leadership and speaking abilities.

Hope to see you soon.

Wednesday's meeting was filled with visitors .. Jackey, Heath, Sven, Tyler and Morris.

SPEECHES:
Ruthie was our first speaker. Her speech was “Running Made Me a Better Person”. Ruthie is a long distance runner (training for marathons!). She explained how her running regimen made her a better wife / mom / employee. Ruthie talked about some of her training tips. She pushes through the pain; she keeps moving (if you’re not running, then be walking); she has a goal and a plan to reach that goal. Setbacks are inevitable. What Ruthie has learned about running, she has applied to her life as a mom and wife and an employee.

Brooke was our second speaker with her Ice Breaker speech “Practice Makes Permanent”. Brooke played field hockey in college (Quinnipiac – I had to google the spelling!). Brooke has learned that lessons she learned in playing sports can be applied to other parts of her life. (This is much like Ruthie’s speech in that running tips help her in other parts of her life). Back to Brooke, she learned that mistakes help you grow. You need to learn from your mistakes. Be adaptive and open-minded. Finally, celebrate the small wins.

Allyson was our third speaker with “Open Yourself to Future Growth”. Allyson explained how this year was her most successful year as a Toastmaster (and she been a Toastmaster for many years – I think 20+). Why was this such a good year? She started a new club! Wow, that’s impressive. She was also a distinguished Area Director. She challenged our club members to open their minds, try a new position, or compete in a contest.

TABLE TOPICS:
Randy led Table Topics. Today (June 14) is Flag Day. Randy wore a flag shirt and started Table Topics with the Pledge of Allegiance. I was touched.
Table Topics questions were about Summer.

Jana spoke about vacations. Her favorite vacation was a ski vacation in Lake Tahoe. She also explained how when growing up in Myrtle Beach, your vacation can be giving up your room for a visitor’s vacation.

Randolph talked about how he came from a family of swimmers. His grandfather was in World War II and had to swim around the carrier ship (wow!). Randolph prefers saltwater pools and is a member of the Sports Club.

Morris spoke about music. To Morris, music is magic, and the music sets the mood. He enjoys afro-beats, and his favorite song is Finesse.

It was a fun and friendly meeting (as usual).
Our next meeting is Wednesday July 12 at noon.
