Happy Independence Day

Today, we celebrate the enduring promise of America—not because our history is perfect, but because it calls each generation to pursue something better.

The America I believe in is one that remembers its history with honesty. We celebrate the ideals that inspired our nation’s founding while acknowledging that our journey has also included injustice, exclusion, and painful chapters that continue to shape us today. Remembering both is not a contradiction—it is part of becoming wiser.

The work of freedom has never been finished.

Our founders entrusted the future to “We the People,” believing that each generation would carry the responsibility of building a more just, more compassionate, and more inclusive society than the one it inherited.

At The Whigham School, we believe leadership begins with humility—the willingness to learn from history, to understand people whose experiences differ from our own, and to use our knowledge in service of others.
