The eye of the tiger 👁
Tiger eyes have large lenses and pupils that increase the amount of light let into the eye. This helps the tiger with night vision and scenarios with low light levels.

Emerald Wilds goes WILD!
We took an adventure out to in North Carolina to spot some wildlife. Speaking of wildlife spotting! We noticed a Spotted Turtle hanging out in the sunshine. They start to emerge around early Spring, and their spots help them to camouflage with the aquatic plants within their habitat. They love to eat aquatic plants, small fish, worms, and small crustaceans. If you get a chance to see one of these turtles in the wild, take an extra moment to appreciate this turtle because they really are incredible to see in person! 🐢

Hello everyone. How was your summer? You haven’t seen us in some time and we’ve also missed you. We’ve been spending time focusing on ourselves and our beloved animals, now our critters are excited to come back and meet you! Stay tuned for future posts about interesting animals! 🦎
Today we had a special guest visit our yard. This creature is known as the squirrel tree frog. They only grow up to less than 2 inches, and look very similar to the green tree frog. Their natural predators include snakes and the Cuban tree frog. 🐍

Following yesterday’s post, today we introduce the Eastern Gray Treefrog! Found in most of the United States and parts of Canada. This is a nocturnal species that primarily resides in treetops, and they only come down to breed. Very cool to find this in our yard!🌳🐸

Happy Groundhog Day! Do you know the meaning of this holiday?
Celebrated on February 2nd of each year, it began as a folklore saying if a groundhog comes out of his burrow and the sun is shining, we will have winter for another 6 weeks. If the weather is cloudy when he leaves his burrow, we will have an early Spring.
Even though this is not recognized as a federal holiday, the United States hosts celebrations for Groundhog Day across the country. The biggest celebration for Groundhog Day takes place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where Punxsutawney Phil has predicted the weather since 1886! Alaska uses a marmot and has a day called Marmot Day to
predict their weather.
For 2021, Punxsutawney Phil has come out of his burrow and he saw his shadow. That means he is predicting 6 more weeks of winter.❄️
