🚨 Great News for Our Classroom! 🚨

Right now, our DonorsChoose project is part of a 2X MATCH event! 🙌

That means every dollar you donate is DOUBLED — your $10 becomes $20, $25 becomes $50, etc. 💥

This is an amazing opportunity to make a huge impact on our students with even a small contribution. If you’ve been thinking about supporting our classroom, now is the perfect time!

It was another full week at GCS with plenty of community partnerships and celebrations of learning. Please see below for some of the many worthy photos.

Elementary students continued applied learning with the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Appalachian Mountain Club as part of the literacy, mathematics, and science curricula.

Teachers, staff, and students also recognized the Students of the Month for April and announced the artwork winners for the Little Lakers Art Creators t-shirt design content.

Middle school students held another Quarterly Meeting to reflect on the upcoming changes in grades and goals for the remainder of the year, and they also continued their financial literacy education through workshops with Penquis' MoneySmart curriculum.

And high school students were able to tour the Old Town canoe factory as part of the Extended Learning Opportunities program and learn more about the marketing, engineering, design, and production of a quintessentially Maine product (photos prohibited per Old Town factory policy).

It is a busy but rewarding time of year at GCS. There will be many more opportunities for applied learning before the year is done, including the 100 mile club for health, the return of the Kiwanis Bikes for Books program, forest field days, and much more.

A few reminders for this coming week...

1. The weather forecast calls for cooler temperatures and intermittent rain for most of the week. Please be sure to send your student in seasonally appropriate clothing, footwear, and rain gear, especially if they have recess.

2. As rain comes and goes, the middle and high school spring sports schedules will likely be in flux. Please be sure to look for updates on both Union 60 social media and through direct communication from the school.

3. The Key Club Installation is this Monday evening at 6:00pm in the Oakes Auditorium. We are pleased to showcase the leadership of the Key Club and its newest members in this ceremony.

4. The Monson Arts Gallery Exhibition is this Friday, May 8th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Monson Gallery. Student work from GCS students and throughout the region will be on display, so please consider visiting and support GCS' participation in this exceptional program.

5. This coming week is national Teacher Appreciation Week. While GCS deeply appreciates the support of the community all year long for its various courses and programs, please join Union 60 administration in taking a moment to recognize the effort and care that is shown in each of the building's classrooms each day. We are fortunate to have a full, committed faculty.

Monday, May 4th, is a White Day.
