We’ve been in ✏️school for over a month now. I always remind myself that new things or transitions into old things take ⌚️time and reflection - like going back to school, approaching the holidays, starting a new sport or job … Check in with yourself, your partner, your little ones (and your big ones). How are things going? Big picture, details, feelings, logistics, all the things … but how?

Start with yourself:
* How do things feel? Your daily routine … which parts are you rocking and which parts are tricky?
* Give yourself a pat on the back for doing so much! Actually say “You’re doing so much and you’re rocking it!” As parents during the school year, we’re usually juggling a lot (hence the picture above) the morning routine, lunch, homework, drop off, pick up, sports, appointments not to mention work outside the home and kiddos of all ages
* Which parts are tricky? Pick ONE (I repeat ONE) small thing and ask yourself “what could I do to make this part more manageable?” “What could I ask my partner to do to support?” “What is it about this part of the day that makes it so tricky?”

What does this sound like for me:
The trickiest part of my day right now is after nappy/ pick up time. I’m usually hungry, tired and in ways depleted. Richard is typically traveling so I’m solo for nap time routine and school pick up. Campbell is still on a somewhat unpredictable nap schedule. We work really hard for the boys to be napping from 12-2 so we can pick up Ryder at 2:45. I realized what makes this part of the day so tricky is that I’m hungry. So I got a jet blender and it’s been sssoo incredible to throw ingredients in and blend it in the pick up line.

What is your trickiest part of the day?

Set up for this week was easy peasy! We laminated a few number cards and collected tons of number books!

This week is all about exploration with numbers. We’re infusing counting into our whole day 🔢 when learning is happening throughout the day it’s more easily understood than when in isolation.

So we’re asking questions like “how many spoons do we need for breakfast?” And highlighting things like “you stacked 5 blocks and 2 fell off! Now how many are on your tower?”

Come check out September and October activities on our website 🔗 we’ve got 🍂leaves next week and then it’s four great weeks in October filled with 🐄 🕸 🎃💀

It’s alphabet week over here and we’re so excited because schools started 🚌 and it means a semi new routine in our house.

When we do the alphabet you won’t see flashcards or alphabet workbooks in our house. You’ll actually HEAR 👂🏼more than you’ll see 👀 … ?? how you ask 💭

The beginning stages of alphabet learning happen in the phoneme stage. Phoneme is another word for sound. It’s the smallest unit of sound in a word. For example, the word cat 🐈 has 3 phonemes /c/a/t/ and the word three also has 3 phonemes /th/r/E/ that’s why when your kindergartner comes home and their paper says “I luv to dans” we praise them for sounding out all the SOUNDS in a word we don’t correct how the spelled love or dance. They’ll eventually learn all of the “code of English” that will help them learn to spell and read words 🤍

So this week we’ll play lots of sound game and we like to start with beginning sounds. “Hey Jack can you grab the bbbbbbbbblocks please?” “Brooks do you want to play in the wwwwwater?” We emphasize the first sound when we’re talking. At lunch today we played the alphabet race! We name a category (zoo) and then we say “we’re going to the zoo, we’re going to the zoo, I think we’ll see aaaaa ____ “ and name something with that beginning sound. We go all the way through the alphabet and just say zoink! If we can’t think of something! It’s so fun and you can do it in the car at school pick up line, waiting at the grocery store, eating lunch 👏🏼

We’ll also focus on the letters in their names because neither have mastered those letter yet and that’s just a-okay in my book 👌🏼

Come check out what else we’ve got going on at our website 🔗 in the bio and watch our stories this week for other fun alphabet ideas

September is an incredible month for so many reason …
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 💛 NICU Awareness Month 💜
To support a cure for pediatric cancer and to support NICU warriors, I’m fundraising with the help of Usborne Books & More again this year! Last year, y’all blew me away and together we raised over $3000 for Children’s Hospital.

We’re at it again this month! A $25 donation will provide a Cuddle Bear set that includes the book 📖Cuddle Bear and a 🐻 stuffed bear to a local family fighting at Children’s Wisconsin.

A portion of the proceeds will also go to support the Scott Carter Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Research. Donations can be made between now and September 15th.

Our goal is $4,000🧸📘 this year🙌🏼
We are so excited to bring just a little bit of joy to families at this hospital.
A donation of $25 provides one book and one teddy, but a donation of $50 provides THREE books and three teddies because Usborne Books and More donates one set to our cause for every two 👏🏼👏🏼

Here are a few ways YOU can help:
1) Venmo any value donation you would like to make! Every little bit gets us closer to our goal 🙏🏼

2) Need more books for the kiddos in your life AND still would like to help this cause? Use this shopping link to make your personal purchases. All rewards earned from this link will go to the Cuddle Bear Drive https://t11226.myubam.com/2395605

3) Don’t have the monetary means to help out this year? PLEASE SHARE!!!

Donations will be accepted through Sept 18! If you can’t donate now but would like a reminder later, please let me know.

Thank you so much for helping us work towards our goal and for providing families and children a smile ☺️
