Dear Washington School Community,

Washington School provides the best college preparatory education in the Delta, but we have never been a school that spends a lot of time talking about our accomplishments. We have always chosen, like our motto says, to let the results prove the deeds, and we are happy that they still do!
In this newsletter and in the ones to follow this summer, we will share some deeds accomplished this year academically. We will also be sharing the projects we have recently undertaken and completed to provide our students with upgraded facilities. Finally, we will be sharing profiles of faculty members so you can better see the quality professionals and people who spend the days with your children.
Washington School has a tremendous history of academic achievement, and we continue to provide our students with a top-quality college preparatory curriculum. While our students grow academically, they are also finding community through a broad spectrum of activities with students from widely varied backgrounds. Our deeds are proven day in and day out by over 3,600 alumni who are leaders in the Delta and around the world.

This year five seniors were admitted to the honors programs at their colleges. Mark Ho**er, Henry Potter, and Molly Warrington were admitted into the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi (www.honors.olemiss.edu). Catherine Copell was admitted to the Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University (www.honors.msstate.edu). Peyton McPherson was admitted into the Honors College at Mississippi Delta Community College (www.msdelta.edu/honors/index.php) which has an articulation agreement with the Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University.
In addition, Henry Potter was admitted into the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (cme.olemiss.edu) and Mollie Warrington was admitted into the Trent Lott Leadership Institute (lottinst.olemiss.edu).
From the mask-wearing, hybrid schedule days to an unforgettable "High School Musical" performance, you've been all in this together.
Congratulations, graduates. Your Washington School family wishes you all the love and happiness life has to offer.
From cheering during recess in elementary to Friday nights on Huddleston Field; Mollie Warrington will now be cheering at Ole Miss on SEC Saturdays! We are so proud of her dedication and hard work!.
Dive into the works of Jane Austen or explore the poetry of the Harlem Renaissance through summer intensive courses taught by Mrs. Sarah Kaplan and Mrs. Laura Smith.
Students in the 6-week course taught by Mrs. Kaplan will explore the masterpiece classics of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. Students will learn to explore historical and biographical influences that surround the texts along with the role women play in Victorian society.
In Mrs. Smith's class students will study the poetry of Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, Countee Cullen, Georgia Douglas Johnson, and others. They will examine the poems and other art forms of this cultural explosion both in their historical context and their relevance today.

Every year fifth graders get to decide on the theme of Field Day and design the shirts. Caitlin Snipes came up with the theme, Luke Bryan's âHuntinâ, Fishinâ and Lovinâ Everydayâ song. Walker Bruton and Jackson Nipper used their creative graphic design skills to design the shirt that all elementary classes will wear. The theme and shirts were a hit!
