The Rural Innovations Strengthening Eastern 29 (RISE29) program is funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation and is a microenterprise program at ECU.

The mission of RISE29 is to create or sustain jobs in rural communities across eastern North Carolina.

Our spotlight intern of the week is Jordan Welborn. He is a Senior studying computer science minoring in mathematics. What he likes RISE29 is that you get to collaborate with other students from different backgrounds. What makes RISE29 so great is that it allows for students to learn and grow from each other before they enter into the industry.

Our second spotlight intern of the week is Corrine Baillie. She is a senior graduating in December with a Bachelors of Science in Entrepreneurship. She likes that RISEUP has given her the opportunity to work on her own ventures along with providing mentors to help her continue to learn. The opportunity has been amazing and Corrine has enjoyed building her network as well as working with students that are also looking to get involved in entrepreneurship.

Our first spotlight intern of the week is Liz Alvarez. She is a Junior, majoring in Political Science, minoring in Russian studies. RISE29 has opened her eyes to eastern North Carolina communities and economies. She really appreciates the networking opportunities, the peer connections, and the impact she’s been able to make in a critical industry!

Our third intern spotlight of the week is Cameron Entrekin. Cameron is a Junior studying Exercise Physiology. What he likes about RISE29 is that RISE29 has offered an incredible opportunity to get out of his comfort zone and be put in a real-world entrepreneurial scenarios, all while contributing to the local Eastern NC economy and community he grew up in. As someone not majoring in a Business/Entrepreneurship focused major, RISE29 allows him to develop his understanding of small business while providing valuable hands-on learning experience he wouldn’t have received otherwise.

Our second spotlight intern of the week is Cayce James. She is currently a senior, majoring in biochemistry. What she enjoys about RISE29 is that it allows Cayce to expand her knowledge about the business world, while also helping someone succeed in something they truly love.

Our first spotlight intern of the week is Rosslyn Koch. She is a sophomore studying International Business and Finance. She likes RISE29 because she has met so many wonderful people and learned a lot about entrepreneurship.

Our second spotlight intern of the week is Emily Findling. She is a senior studying Business Administration with a concentration in Management. She loves that RISE29 allows students to learn the process of starting a business, while getting to make connections with business professionals, fellow classmates, and the local communities. In addition, she loves getting to participate in the economic development of Eastern North Carolina.

Our first spotlight intern of the week is Tamia Slye. Tamia is a junior majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Social Research. One thing that she likes about RISE29 would be getting a chance to experience how it is to work with animals, and also connecting with the other interns!

Our first spotlight intern of the week is Neeraj Mehra. Neeraj is a Junior studying Entrepreneurship with an Excercise Science minor. The thing he likes the most about the RISEUP program is being able to pursue his business venture with support and feedback from the RISEUP advisors.

Our first spotlight intern of the week is Madison Adkins. She is a senior studying marketing. She loves that RISE29 is creating exposure for small businesses in Eastern NC, as well as how it has allowed her to make so many new connections and friends.

Our first intern spotlight of the week is Nicole Santana Cerezo. She is a junior majoring in Business Management with a Data Analytics Certificate. She loves RISE29 because it provides connections with real-world business professionals and equips students with essential business skills for life post-graduation.

Our second intern spotlight of the week is Fiona Freyholtz. She is a senior studying marketing and data analytics. What Fiona loves about RISE29 is all the knowledge that she has gained from the position, and the experience that she never would have been able to get in the classroom and making connections while on the job.
