Due to weather, the Christmas Concert tonight has been postponed. Mr. Coleman is working on a creative way for us to still perform after the hard work everyone has put in to this concert. Keep an eye on the Greenup Schools Music Facebook and Instagram pages to stay updated on how and when the Christmas Concert will be!

Hot dogs! Get your hot dogs here!

We have a volunteer opportunity today at 12:00pm! As football season has come to a close, we need to move everything from the football concession stand to the basketball concession stand to get ready for basketball season. Anyone who wants to volunteer, come to The Farm (football stadium) between 11:30am-12:00pm, and help move food! All students who help will receive volunteer hours that they can use for Great 8!

We want to give a huge shoutout to these fantastic students! They stayed after school today for 2 hours and started to learn new instruments in order to restart the Jazz Band at Greenup County High School with plans of making it a class during the school day next school year! There’s more that want to be involved, but had other obligations today, but the first rehearsal was fantastic for them never playing these instruments before today! Huge strides are being made at Greenup to grow the band program by a full ensemble and adding to the music department!

The next rehearsal is Monday, September 30th, 3:30-5:30pm and is open to all students 8-12th grade that are interested and have played an instrument before. There are limited instruments at the high school, so they are first come first serve!

On Saturday, the Musketeer Marching Band participated in the Ajay Stiles Memorial Band Show at Green High School in Franklin Furnace, OH! This is the first marching band competition that Greenup County High School has been represented in over a decade! Not only is this the first time the Musketeer Marching Band has competed, we were the best band from Kentucky in the competition! In addition, we had a rehearsal in the beautiful new Musketeer Alumni Complex while it was raining outside!

Thank you to Mr. Pierce and the Green High School Band Boosters for all of your hard work to put this competition together! We look forward to having this be an annual event we perform at!

ATTENTION ALL GREENUP COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BAND ALUMNI!! The Musketeer Marching Band welcomes the 3rd annual Greenup County High School Alumni Band for Homecoming on Friday, October 24th! All band alumni are invited to come back home and play in the band for everything at the game, pregame, in the stands, and standstill postgame with our show, the Nightmare Before Christmas. We would love to see as many people on the field as possible to make the combined numbers close to 50 this year!

If you are interested in playing in Alumni Band this year, please fill out the following Google Form or contact Mr. Coleman at [email protected] by Friday October 17th to get the music ahead of time!

Great job with the first week of August rehearsals everyone! Not only do we have Part 1 of Nightmare Before Christmas on the field, but that sets us up to potentially have through Part 2 on the field before the first game next Friday! One of our media students, Olivia Scaff, and our Drum Major, Jaden Holbrook, had fun taking pictures throughout rehearsal yesterday evening!

For the football game next Friday, we are looking for 2-3 more people to help with the concession stand to make sure everyone gets food at the first football game! Helping at the concession stands helps the students in the music department pay for different things like the Music Banquet at the end of the year, the King’s Island trip, and other fun opportunities that come up throughout the year!

A message from Mr. Coleman to the high school band:

Genuinely amazing job this week everyone! Thank you all for being attentive and flexible throughout everything new that you learned this week, I hope you grew as a person and as a musician, but most importantly I hope you all had fun and made both some memories and friends. Take care of yourselves, keep drinking water, treat any sunburn you have, and take care of your feet. Wurtland and McKell folks, welcome to the high school! I can tell that there’s something special about the band this year, and I can’t wait to explore what all is possible this year! We have 6 events that happen before school starts, each of which are extremely important, those are below:

August 12, 3:00-8:00pm; August Rehearsal
August 14, 3:00-8:00pm; August Rehearsal
August 19, 3:00-8:00pm; August Rehearsal
August 21, 3:00-8:00pm; August Rehearsal
August 22, TBD; Freshman Orientation

If anyone needs anything, I’m available on Remind (Band remind code is -band) or email ([email protected]). If I don’t hear from you, I’m going to assume that you’ll be at everything. Enjoy the next week and a half off, and I’ll see you all on the 12th!

Enjoy sleeping in everyone! Everyone has been working extremely hard this week and deserves this morning to sleep in today! Today we have a firetruck coming from the Lloyd Fire Department to come and spray water for everyone to play in and cool off. Anyone that wants to play in the water has to bring a towel and a change of clothes so that nobody goes home while still damp from the water. Welcome (back) to Greenup Ms. Collins!! For those of you who don’t know, Ms. Collins is a 2020 graduate of GCHS and went to McKell Middle School herself! It’s so good to see things come full circle for her and now being the Director of Music at MMS!

We would like to introduce you to our new teachers! Today we spotlight our new Band, Choir and Music Teacher. Not only is she a Greenup County alumni but also a Mckell alumni. Welcome home Ms. MacKenzie Collins!
