Here are last night's athletic results that have been submitted.
Boys' Tennis vs. Lapel
Coach's Comments:
The Comet tennis team traveled to Lapel last night and came away with their first win against them in program history.
The Comets won by the score of 3-2.

Winners included the doubles teams of Blake Day/Camden Ward at #1 doubles (6-3, 6-1) and the #2 doubles team of Tyce Winkler/Carson Ward (6-0,6-1).

The third point came at #3 singles where Ethan Heck won by the score of 6-1, retire. Ethan came out and put pressure on his opponent from the beginning and didn’t let up.

Silas Flanary battled his all-state opponent to the longest match of the evening but came up short in a high quality match. The final spot was filled by Clayton Stanley who stepped up to play #2 singles filling in for injured Tristan Armogum.

The JV was also victorious by the score of 7-1. Winners included Dawson Howell, Hudson Bedwell, Jack Vanhorn, and Trey Harrison in singles and the doubles teams of Kaeden Romero/Eli Hannah, Ayden Dewitt/Kaiden Dell, and Aaron Kaiser/Cooper Brown.

The Varsity moved to 7-1 on the season and the JV 9-0. The varsity is back in action next when traveling to Carroll for another Conference matchup tonight. The JV is back in action next on Wednesday when facing Wabash. Way to go, Comets!!!

Boys' Soccer vs. Oak Hill
Coach's Comments:
Eastern's boys' soccer team fell 5–1 to Oak Hill on Monday at Eastern Jr. & Sr. High School. The Comets went to halftime level at 1–1, with senior Austin Shafer scoring off an assist from Evan Williams, and stayed even with Oak Hill through the opening hour before the visitors pulled away late. Eastern's undoing was a stretch in the closing minutes in which a handful of mistakes compounded. The Comets now shift focus to the conference schedule, with a full month of matches ahead to build toward the IHSAA Sectional.

JV Football vs. Pendleton Heights
Coach's Comments:
JV Comets improve to 2-0 with a 16-8 win over a tough Pendleton Heights team! McClurg: 148 pass yds, 2 TD (Boles, B. Helmberger) Zook: 88 rec yds. Tolle: 44 rush yds. Defense: 4 sacks, 3 INTs, 2 FF, 1 FR. T. Smith, B. Smith & R. Smith with INTs, Delagrange and Foland with forced fumbles!

The Comet tennis team opened conference play with visiting Delphi. It proved to be an efficient effort as the team only dropped 5 total games in the 5-0 win.

Winning in singles was Silas Flanary, Blake Day and Ethan Heck at 1,2 and 3. Doubles winners were the teams of Camden Ward/Tyce Winkler and Carson Ward/Clayton Stanley at 1 and 2.

The JV team won against Rossville 25-23, 11-25, and 15-12.

Girls' Golf vs. Hamilton Heights
Eastern: 220
Hamilton Heights 203

The Comets dropped a tough match against Hamilton Heights at Bear Slide Golf Course. With only 2 of the 7 girls ever seeing the course, I was happy with how we performed.

Darya Sedaghat led the team with a 50 followed closely by Sophie Kretz who battled some tough breaks to shoot 51. Kamryn Romero added a 59 and Brynn Shepherd a 60. Zoey Fouch rounded out the scoring with a 62. Madi Murphy and Emilia Flook both shot 67 on the night.

7th grade Football vs. Western
The 7th grade Comets lost 6-14.
HIGHLIGHTS
TD: Knox Hannah
FF: Cash Hendrix
FR: Carson Smith

The boys fought hard till the end of the game but came up short. We were able to move the ball in the second half but penalties throughout the game were costly. We were able to throw in some nice wrinkles offensively that will help us in the future. The 7th grade football team hosts R.J. Baskett Middle School on Tuesday, September 1st.

Girls' Soccer vs. Peru
Coach's Comments:
The Eastern Lady Comets battled hard yesterday afternoon against a tough, senior-heavy Peru squad in an exciting match that went right down to the wire!
Lainey Newlin found the back of the net TWICE, beating the Peru defense around the edge for two fantastic goals! Then, with the game winding down in the second half, Maeli Petty came through with a clutch goal to tie things up! The final score: Eastern 3 — Peru 3!
This is one of the grittiest and toughest teams I have ever coached. Everyone played hard, played together, and showed what Comet soccer is all about. Next up, the Lady Comets take on conference rival Tri-Central next Tuesday! Keep it rollin’, Lady Comets!

Boys' Tennis vs. Hamilton Heights
Coach's Comments:
The Comet Tennis Team traveled to play at Hamilton Heights last night and came away with a 4-1 win. The Comets were shy 3 starters, so some others had to step up to fill their absences. It proved to be a great team effort.
Winning on the night in singles was Silas Flanary and Blake Day at 1 and 2. Dawson Howell filled the 3rd spot for his first varsity career match and came up shy in a 2 set battle. I was proud of how Dawson stepped up at the last second to fill this role.
Winning in doubles were the teams of Camden Ward/Carson Ward and Kaeden Romero/Clayton Stanley. Really proud of how these boys competed tonight.

The JV was also victorious by the score of 5-1. Winners on the night included Hudson Bedwell and Kaeden Dell in singles and the doubles teams of Tyce Winkler/Elijah Hannah, Aiden Dewitt/Cooper Brown, and Trey Mayfield Harrison/Aaron Kaiser.
The varsity moved to 5-1 on the season and the JV 6-0. The varsity is back in action on Thursday night when they open conference play against Delphi. The JV is back in action next when traveling to the Plymouth Invite on Saturday. Go Comets!!!

Varsity Volleyball vs. Western
Coach's Comments:
Lady Comets varsity VB beat Western 25-12, 25-10, 25-12. Kenzie Appleton had 18 kills. Ava Kinney had 8 kills. Bailey Appleton and Kaydence Osborne had 5 kills each. Josie Odle had 32 assists and 10 pts. Savannah Smith had 12 pts, 5 serve receptions, and 6 digs. Lauren Hendricks had 6 serve receptions, 11 digs, and 12 pts.
