We are only 2 weeks away from ELECTION DAY!! Open voting is happening now and appreciate those kind people who have supported me.

As a child, school never came easy for me. I was often the student who needed a little more time or who needed one on one time in order to understand. I was often embarrassed that it took me longer than most to grasp concepts. I had a special teacher that took me under her wing. She spent time with me and tutored me. She introduced me to cherry coke. Even today if I drink one I think of her.
Over the years I have come in contact with so great teacher and ones who were there for a pay check. There are teachers that can make you or ones that can break you.

We have some wonderful teachers supporting our children in Decatur County. When I am a board member I want to be able to support our teachers! Advocating for those children who need more opportunities to learn. Promoting more help inside the classrooms and programs that give our kids the best chance at success!

Beautiful morning at the Westport Fall Festival!

The outpouring of support that I’ve received over the last few weeks has been heartwarming! Thank you!! I appreciate all the kind and encouraging words.

World Mental Health Day was on October 10th. This is a sensitive topic but one that is near and dear to my heart. As parents, we can see the rise in mental health disorders around us. Did you know, the CDC reports that nearly 20% (1 in 5) children/teens are struggling with mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder. How can we improve our resources within our schools to support our children and their school community?

This is one of my goals when elected for the Decatur County Community School Board for District D!!

Election Day is right around the corner!

My mission is truly to be the voice for families when I am chosen for the Decatur County School Board.

Who better to serve our community than someone who can strongly advocate for our children and their families. Making informed and educated decisions will be tough but I am up for the challenge! I am committed to this role on the school board.

A Hardwork ethic is a trait I have had since a young age.

From my first job as a babysitter at the age of 12, working on weekends at a nursing home at age 16, working countless 12+ hr on a hospital floor often missing meals/bathroom breaks, the roles of a mother, running meals on the farm, helping build our dream home, HOLDING THE GATE, open adoption, sorting cattle, praying for a miracle, and many more.

A wise woman once told me if you need something done ask a busy mother and she will get it done!

What runs my family? My FAITH, family, farm, and healthcare. It comes with a lot of chaos but I wouldn’t want it any other way!

Fun fact: I have an IDENTICAL TWIN! She lives in Bartholomew County, married a farmer, she is a nurse and has 4 kids!

My signs officially started to go up today! You may spot a bright orange sign and that’s mine. As a mother of school aged kids, I am in the thick of motherhood. Having my boys at the elementary and my girls at the JR/HS, I understand the pros and cons that are school system is facing. My children’s education and future is a priority for me. I hope to support the families of Decatur County Community Schools and be their voice!

Election Day is less than 2 months away!! Running for a seat on the Decatur County School Board would be a first for me. As a parent, the health and safety of our students is my #1 priority. As a board member, it would allow me to assist with making decisions that will impact our children. It is important to have a variety of individuals on the school board. This allows the group to make adequate and informed decisions that benefit both schools equally. Making important decisions is something I do daily. As a board member, I would take that same decision-making and accountability for the families of DCCS.

Our family lives on the south end of Decatur County. My children attend South Decatur Elementary and J/SR HS. Academics and athletics play a big role in our family's lives. Academics is the backbone as our children grow towards becoming adults. Making sure Decatur County Community Schools continues to deliver strong educational programs that focus on the growth of our children. Our children deserve opportunities that allow them to learn. Athletics is a big part of my children’s lives! If you know my husband, Jed, you know he plays a role in our kids loving to play sports! As for me, I don’t love sports. I love my children and want to support them in things that make them happy. So, you will see me in the stands cheering my kiddos on!! Whether inside the classroom or on the ball field I want my children to be safe, healthy, and successful.

On November 5th, 2024 consider Alison Ortman for a seat on the Decatur County Community School Board!!

Hard to believe North and South Decatur students are back to school! My hope is for a successful 2024-2025 academic year. My children will be a sophomore, 8th, 5th, and 3rd this year. Each new school year is an opportunity for growth and change.

I love being part of the Decatur County Community. Our rural community allows us to hold tight to the values of the Midwest. These principles positively impact our children's future which is vital to their success. I am dedicated to keeping students and their families my priority!

Fun Fact About Me: I enjoy spending time in my vegetable garden in the summer! That's where my green thumb is. Now for my porch flowers. They are fake, it's the only way I can keep them alive!

As we get closer to election day in November, consider me for the District D seat on the Decatur County Community School Board!

Participated in the Decatur County Fair Parade!!
It was a HOT one but worth it to get my name out there as a candidate for the DCCS Board District D.

Supporting the families of DCCS is where my heart is! Having 4 children in this school system, I understand firsthand the pros and cons of the school system.

If I were to be elected, I want to work closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators. My goal is to be open, honest, and transparent with the community!
