September 14-18 is Adopt A Less-Adoptable Pet Week!

"Less-adoptable"? What does that mean?

A "less-adoptable" pet is simply a pet that continuously gets overlooked at an animal shelter - whether its because of their demeanor, breed, age, or disability.

Greensburg-Decatur Co. Animal Shelter has MANY pets to choose from and you'll notice that some of these faces are the same - week after week - as they wait for their forever family to find them.

It is incredibly important that people meet these pets in person. Some may be scared or nervous in a kennel, which may cause them to shut down or seem more aggressive through the kennel door. Once they are out of the kennel and playing in the yard, they may be a totally different pet! Imagine how different they'd be in a home versus the shelter.

We encourage you to go meet these pets in person, take them for a walk, play fetch in the yard — they may surprise you! You also always have the option to foster a pet prior to finalizing an adoption — this is the best way to make sure it’s a perfect fit before making the official commitment!

Today - September 5, 2026 - is the International Day of Charity!

Today is the perfect opportunity to volunteer your talents, your hands, your time, or your finances to help others.

You can walk dogs at the shelter. You can fold laundry or do dishes. You can clean cat kennels. You can donate items on their wish list. You can donate $5 towards the new shelter campaign.

Tripp’s Trunk or Treat is open to the public!

Anyone can set up their trunk and pass out treats - however, we’d like to have an idea of how many people to expect!

What a fantastic day on Saturday as we participated in the first Minde Myers’ Tails and Trails Memorial Ride! 🛞

We had 24 Jeeps and bikes on this ride! We didn’t know what to expect, especially with so many things happening in the community on the same day/weekend.

Thank you to the Friends of the Greensburg-Decatur Co. Animal Shelter board for all the planning that went into this! Thank you to the shelter staff for being some of the hardest workers out there - we are glad you could be a part of the day!

Thank you to Cindy Pinson and the crew at Link’s for a fantastic pork chop dinner and last stop to end the day!

Thank you to Ally Sullivan for being our law enforcement for the day and stopping traffic at all major intersections to keep us safe and keep the group together throughout the ride!
