SEPTEMBER IS INDIANA ARCHAEOLOGY MONTH: This week’s posts from the Indiana DNR Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology highlight Archaeology Month, and Vincennes and its rich multicultural heritage as a frontier capital.

September is the 31st anniversary of a statewide celebration of archaeology in the Hoosier state! What began as Indiana Archaeology Week in 1996 expanded in 2002 to become Indiana Archaeology Month because of vigorous interest and demand for archaeology related events.

The types of events held through the years have continued to evolve but always center around sharing archaeology with the public. Past events have included archaeology laboratory open-houses, excavations, presentations, artifact identification sessions, training and more. As a result, Hoosiers continue to discover what archaeology can reveal about their heritage and the history of their communities.

Join us as we highlight archaeology. We hope you will be able to attend some of the archaeology themed events which will be taking place and learn more about what is being discovered about the past.
