Congratulations KMS! We are excited to announce that KMS met our growth goal for the 2025-2026 school year! Thank you to our entire school community for our collective hard work, dedication, and commitment to teaching and learning.
Reminder: Guilford County Schools Technology Outage: GCS is transitioning its technology facility to a new location during the Labor Day holiday. GCS websites and systems will be offline, which means that employees and students will not be able to access their email or other documents. If you send a message to a staff member, please know that it will not be received until after technology service has been restored. Thank you for your patience and have a good evening.
Kernodle Tardy Policy:
We want to notify all of our families that following Labor Day we will begin to enforce our tardy policy. We have worked over the past two weeks to make sure our AM car rider line is done before 8:20am Students arriving after the 8:20am bell will be marked tardy. This does not include students and families who are impacted by late buses.
Attendance Notes and Early Release:
We appreciate your flexibility as we are getting accustomed to using ClassDojo. Please remember that that if your student is absent an email or physical note to your student’s homeroom teacher is needed for the school’s official records. Additionally, if you are picking your student up early, please either send a note with your student that morning or call the front office to let them know so they can give a pass to your child.
2026-2027 Kernodle Middle School Student Handbook: Over the past two weeks we have reviewed expectations with students and we need your help. Please continue to review academic and behavioral expectations with students. A copy of our handbook can be found here: Student Handbook
A Message from our Media Specialist, Mrs. Crane: Kernodle is having a yearbook cover contest. Submit two drawings of a cougar for the front and the back of the yearbook with a slogan on an 8x11 piece of paper by October 1st to Mrs. Crane in the media center. The winner will get to have his or her cougar on the front of the yearbook. Email Mrs. Crane with any questions at [email protected]
A Message from our Athletic Director, Ms. Williams: Tryouts for CoEd Cheerleading will be Tuesday, September 8th until Thursday, September 10th after school until 5:30pm. Students must attend all days of tryouts to be eligible for the team. Requirements for what to prepare and what to wear can be found on the athletics Facebook and Instagram pages.

Attention Parents of 8th Grade Boys! We are excited to introduce Project: Renaissance, a mentoring and leadership program designed to help young men develop skills in leadership, STEM, professionalism, financial literacy, and community involvement. Through mentorship and hands-on experiences, students will grow into confident leaders and positive contributors to their community. Students can sign-up through Friday, September 11th. Permission slips can be picked up in Room 505 or the main office and will need to be returned to Mrs. Lynch. The first session will be held on Monday, September 14th.
Attention Parents of 6th Grade Girls! Kernodle Middle School is excited to partner with Girls Like Me, a program designed to help young ladies build confidence, develop important skills, and strengthen character. Students will participate in engaging STEM activities and self-development workshops focused on self-love, self-esteem, and confidence—all at no cost to families. Students can sign-up through Friday, September 11th. Permission slips can be picked up in Room 505 or the main office and will need to be returned to Mrs. Lynch. The first session will be held on Monday, September 14th.
Attention Kernodle Middle School Families! We are excited to offer Minecraft Build Challenges through the Scholastic Esports Alliance, a statewide K–12 program led by UNC Greensboro. Students will research engaging themes, work collaboratively in teams, and complete creative Minecraft building challenges while receiving feedback from UNCG staff.
Your Feedback Matters: Continue, Stop, or Change! We invite our school community to share feedback from the first 10 days of school. This was a great start to school year, but we want to know how to make each week even better. The survey is open to students, teachers, parents, guardians and community partners. Interested in Robotics? Join Two Former Kernodle Middle School Students for a discussion! We are delighted to partner with two former Kernodle Middle School students who are now attending North Carolina A & T State University who will share their knowledge of engineering with Kernodle students through an online class. The class will be hosted virtually on Saturday, September 26 from 12:00pm-2:00pm. See the QR Code on the flyer to sign-up.
Live Action Fairytales Theater Club: Live Action Fairytales Theater Club will meet on Wednesday, September 9 from 3:30pm-4:30pm. Parents and Guardians should arrive by 4:15pm to pick students up on time. If you have questions, please reach out to [email protected].
Student Council Applications 9/14-9/18Does your child want to make a difference in our school and community? KMS Student Council leads the school in multiple service projects and school-spirit initiatives each year! The week of 9/14-9/18 interested students can pick up an application from the top of their grade-level hall to complete and return to either Ms. Herron or Ms. Luze by the end of the day on Friday, 9/18. Applications will not be accepted after that date. The application includes student open-ended questions, parent signature, and a teacher recommendation. Student Council meets after school the first Thursday of each month until 4pm.
Calling for all Teenpreneurs! If you have a student who is interested in entrepreneurship, please make sure to secure a spot for our KMS Entrepreneur Club. There are only 20 slots available! The deadline to register will be Friday, September 18th. Students will participate in monthly sessions hosted one Saturday out of the month. Upcoming KMS Saturday Academy: We will host our first Saturday Academy on Saturday, September 26from 10:00am-12:00pm. Students attending Saturday Academy need a quiet place to make up missing assignments, can work independently, and need minimal redirection. Tutoring services may or may not be available. All students who attend need to be able to work independently with minimal support . Students are able to bring water and a light snack if needed. There are only 20 slots available on a first come first served bases. Families must provide own transportation and be on campus no later 11:45am to pick students up promptly at 12:00pm. Labor Day Holiday: No School: There is no school on Monday September 7th for the Labor Day Holiday. We look forward to seeing our students on Tuesday, September 8th.
