Today we are highlighting the second of the two displays by UNC Greensboro students.

“Dare to be Different: Collegiate Women’s Sports in the 1970s” explores UNC Greensboro’s charter membership in the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) and its support of Title IX. The display is curated by Emma Marjory Albrecht, Martha Blakeney Hodges Fellow, UNCG Special Collections & University Archives. This display is on view now in the top floor annex.

Hello! The folks who run the account have a tradition where we introduce ourselves when we graduate, so here I am!

My name is Jordan Fridley, and I graduated with my MLIS today! I've been running the accounts since August of 2025.

I have a background in history and political science from Guilford College (class of 2024). In my final year in the MLIS program, I worked in SCUA as a graduate assistant, and my work included social media. I had a great time, and really enjoyed my work!

Announcing the 2026-2027 Martha Blakeney Hodges Fellows!

The 2026-2027 academic year will mark the third year for the Martha Blakeney Hodges Fellowship program in SCUA. The two students who will be serving as Hodges Fellows in the coming year are Rylie Millea and CJ Minor.

Rylie is a rising senior who is majoring in English with minors in Creative Writing, Ancient Mediterranean Studies, and History. She has been a Peer Academic Mentor at UNCG since Fall 2024, and during the 2025-2026 academic year, she interned in SCUA as part of the Humanities at Work program.

CJ is also an English major entering her senior year. She also has minors in American Sign Language and Media Studies. CJ is a mentor in the Lloyd International Honors College, a Class of ‘55 Scholar, and a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honors society. She served as a Humanities at Work intern at the Weatherspoon Art Museum in 2025-2026.

The Martha Blakeney Hodges Fellowship Program provides two UNCG students with a paid, hands-on learning opportunity in archives and academic librarianship. Hodges Fellows build invaluable skills under close mentorship and training from our archivists in a transformative, unique experience unlike any other available on campus. The program is managed by Erin Lawrimore, University Archivist and Student Engagement Coordinator.

This is an Adelphian Society group photograph from 1910. The Adelphian Society was one of two of the original literary societies at State Normal and Industrial School (now UNCG), created a mere two years after State Normal was founded.

Every student that attended after 1893 was automatically assigned to a literary society to participate in during their time on campus. These societies operated like social groups and would hold many events.
