In honor of National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, MEET THE UNCG PROVIDER:

Meet Kelly Harrington, a Speech-Language Pathologist at the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center who specializes in working with people who stutter. Kelly is a Board Certified Specialist in Stuttering, Cluttering, and Fluency Disorders, as well as the Greensboro Family Chapter Leader for the National Stuttering Association. She is passionate about integrating counseling into stuttering therapy, helping clients build confidence while strengthening their communication.

Meet Dr. Lisa Fox-Thomas, a clinical audiologist, researcher, and Assistant Clinical Director at the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center. Dr. Thomas specializes in the evaluation and management of tinnitus, sound sensitivity disorders, and auditory processing disorder (APD). She also directs the Center’s Listening Lab summer camp, helping children with APD build confidence and stronger listening skills through engaging, hands-on activities. 🎧✨

Meet Erin Leventhal, a Speech-Language Pathologist at the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center. From early intervention through school age, Erin creates fun and engaging therapy experiences through literacy-based thematic units, designed to support children’s speech and language growth. Her approach blends connection, creativity, and evidence-based practice to help every child build communication skills and confidence.

Meet Dr. Amy Myers, an audiologist serving clients at the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center. Dr. Myers played a key role in bringing cochlear implant services to the clinic and in establishing the Center as part of the Cochlear Provider Network. Today, the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center offers a full range of hearing services, including cochlear implants, to support clients throughout their hearing journey.

Meet Jessica Thomas, a Speech-Language Pathologist serving adult clients at the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center. Jessica’s favorite part of therapy is helping clients reconnect with the activities and relationships that matter most to them. She specializes in neurorehabilitation, dysphagia, voice disorders, and gender-affirming voice training, with a compassionate and functional approach centered on each client’s goals.

📢 International Noise Awareness Day is here!
❓ DID YOU KNOW...The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 1.1 billion young people (aged 12-35 years) are at risk of hearing loss due to exposure to noise in recreational settings.
❓DID YOU KNOW...Sound exposure to loud sounds includes sounds you LIKE (e.g., music).
❓DID YOU KNOW...The MAGIC number for monitoring sound exposure is 85 decibels (SPL) - sounds 85 dB and louder can be harmful.
❓DID YOU KNOW...DURATION of sound exposure determines how harmful loud sounds are (the louder the sound, the shorter the duration).
❓ DID YOU KNOW...If a sound is loud enough, it can cause PERMANENT hearing loss after a SINGLE sound exposure.
❓DID YOU KNOW...Excessive sound exposure is one of the leading causes of TINNITUS (ringing in the ears).
❓DID YOU KNOW...Not all EARPLUGS are created equal and the fit of the earplug is crucial for determining how much protection they provide.
❓DID YOU KNOW...Noise cancelling earplugs and headphones do NOT provide adequate sound protection.
