Super proud to have presented this award. There is no one more deserving. Don Cline is a legend.

Last night, the Greensboro Astronomy Club presented Donald Cline with a Lifetime Appreciation award. Over the past 30 years, Cline, a former local business owner, has crafted a legendary reputation the arena of public astronomy outreach.

His contributions and efforts include:
* Cline Observatory on the main campus of GTCC in Jamestown

* Guilford College Cline Observatory in Greensboro

* The Jo and Don Cline Visitor Center at Dark Sky Observatory on the campus of Appalachian Sate.

* The annual Jo Cline Memorial Astronomy Day Lecture (honoring his late wife), on the campus of GTCC. The lecture features a prominent researcher in astronomy, astrophysics, or planetary science.

* The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute on the site of a former NASA satellite tracking station near Rosman, NC, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. PARI serves a multitude of audiences, providing educational camps to youth, research opportunities to college students, archival of thousands of meteorites and the world's second-largest collection of astronomical glass plates (almost 600k, preserving night sky observations going back nearly 150 years).

Happy Pi Day! Find ways to celebrate here 03/14/2025

Welcome to Pi Day 2025 (3/14) ...

If you remember basic geometry, you will remember that pi comes from the relationship between the circumference and the radius of a circle:

Area of a circle = Ο€ r ^2

But what they didn't teach you in school is that that equation has a fundamental flaw.

Circles are round, not square 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Happy Pi Day! Find ways to celebrate here Have you heard of Pi Day? It happens every year on March 14. The numbers 3-1-4 are the first three digits of the famous mathematical constant pi, which, in case you’re wondering, is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
