✨Montessori Monday✨
Primary sure knows how to gather their resources. Whether it’s classroom materials or sticks and rocks, play never stops and neither does learning. Time outdoors is essential for the student growth and our campus surrounded by woods, gardens, and fields creates the perfect environment for each child to explore what nature has to offer.

GMS alum Jean-Lou Paré (’17) recently completed the Appalachian Trail in under five months — just after earning his Master’s degree in engineering.

GMS has always known Jean-Lou as an adventurer, and we were thrilled to get the inside scoop on this incredible journey.

Curious to hear more about Jean-Lou’s time on the Trail? Read the full story on our blog: https://www.gms.org/jean-lou-pare-appalachian-trail/

In honor of Dr. Maria Montessori’s birthday this week, we honor the words that motivate our School to continue her pedagogy each day.

Maria coined the term “education for life” and dedicated hers to the advancement of following the child in their education. She outlined the values that shape our curriculum today including practical life, peace, and the role of the teacher.

Happy Birthday, Maria. We will continue to grow your legacy here at GMS.

🪚Montessori Monday🪚
Junior High Foundations Week is a time for building a cohesive community for the new school year. Our seventh and eighth grade students combine in multiple ways as they enter a new period of adolescent development. Our 37-acre Land Campus further cultivates this relationship through meaningful physical work, exploration, and a sense of connection away from home.

“Ugly” food is still good food! 🍅🫛🌽🥕

Aubrey is a part of our Environmental Education team, maintains our gardens, and owns Gate City Harvest farm and market. In this video, Aubrey teaches students that organic food may not always look pretty, but is still edible.

Our GMS gardens and Gate City Harvest are both rooted in permaculture; an approach to land management that promotes sustainability and natural resilience without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Through our environmental program and field trips like these, our students learn that food comes from farms, not grocery stores.

"Look here!" "I found something!" "What is that?"

Are some of the few phrases heard at the Land from our Lower Elementary Summer campers. They explored, pointed, and got a little messy while seeing all the area had to offer.

Learning about farming and produce with Aubrey at Gate City Harvest! Our Upper Elementary campers toured the grounds and learned about how fresh produce is processed for selling. They also made pico de gallo with harvested ingredients.
