UNCG School of Nursing Leading the Way!
North Carolina, like many states, has a nursing shortage. The UNC System is addressing this by offering free open education resources (OER) to nursing students. By 2026, 7 out of 12 UNC nursing programs will use free textbooks, reaching about 2,800 students each year. Lindsay Draper, DNP, MSN, Associate Professor of Nursing at the UNC Greensboro has helped lead the redevelopment of courses to accommodate the use of OER textbooks. “We can use this as a recruitment tool to get students into our nursing programs in the UNC System,” says Draper.

The end of the academic year is a chance to highlight our faculty and their accomplishments. To coincide with Nurses Week, we're highlighting Dr. Lindsay Draper, '16 MSN/MBA, '19 DNP, a recent honoree of the Anna Maria Gove Alumni Teaching Excellence Award. Draper has taught courses from early undergraduate to doctoral levels, demonstrating excellence.
And, she is an innovator! She is leading the way in teaching students about the applications of artificial intelligence. She has created custom AI Tools for nursing students and contributed to the UNC System’s Foundations of AI course, leading development of its “AI in Health Sciences” module. Congratulations, Dr. Draper! She is pictured here receiving her award with her family and Dean Debra Barksdale and Dr. Wanda Williams. https://www.uncg.edu/news/teaching-excellence-awardees-2025-26/
