OLG 5K Run/Walk/Doggie Dash

REGISTER NOW! The window has been open for ALL events since August 1st. Get your virtual race on! Participate in any or all of the events at Country Park or wherever you'd like. To earn 5K awards you MUST do the Country Park course (exact details once you register). Additionally, all participants for the Kids Run get a special OLG 5K, Doggie Dash, Kids Run water bottle. As much as we would like to have an in person race day, we've decided to go 100% virtual, due to the uncertainty of COVID-19. We're going to do the best we can to make lemonade out of lemons.

Here's how it is going to work. When you register for the 5K, Doggie Dash, and/or Kids Run, you will have from August 1st through August 29th to complete the course(s). If you don't like your time, then you can have as many "re-runs" as you want for $5 each re-run. For ALL of the events, you can run/walk/jog/crawl, doesn't matter, the course at Country Park, using the RaceJoy app (more details to follow soon). You can also complete ANY of the events anywhere you want, as long as you do the correct distance (5K=3.125mi, Doggie Dash/Kids Run=1.8mi) NOTE, to qualify for overall and age group 5K awards you MUST complete the Country Park course, though, preferably using the RaceJoy app.

EVERY child who completes the Kids Run course, at Country Park, will receive a limited edition OLG 5K water bottle. This year, since we can't block the parking lots, the Kids Run will be a bit longer and 1 clockwise loop around Country Park. It's the same course as the Doggie Dash.

So, please sign up and complete your event(s) between August 1-29th.

As we navigate through these strange and difficult times, we wanted to give you an update of our current thinking...sorry, it's sort of long.

We have numerous factors to consider for our upcoming event, the least of which, is the safety of the participants and volunteers. We'd LOVE to have the race in person and still hold out hope we can have some kind of modified event. Unfortunately, right now, we aren't even sure we can have access to Country Park as a race event, which leaves us in limbo. In the meantime, we are studying other, in person races, to see how they are planning their events. Several changes including, no packet pickup, staggered starts of small group sizes, course changes(to avoid cross traffic), and the elimination of post race activities, are some viable options we have seen.

A virtual only event, is looking more and more likely but not set in stone quite yet. We basically have 1 more month to officially decide. We dislike having so much up in the air, but it is what it is.
Other things we have to consider, this year, are, the lack of sponsorships, the cost to rent Country Park, which isn't cheap, the cost of giveaways(tshirts, bandanas), and awards. Right now, we will not be giving away shirts, as part of your registration, but WILL have awards.

REGISTRATION is currently open for VIRTUAL 5K, Doggie Dash, and Kids Run options. Prices WILL NOT increase before mid August. REGISTRATION is also available for an in person race, as well.

Here's what we plan to do....IF we hold a modified event and you have signed up for the virtual event, but would like to do the "real" version, we will transfer your registration over, with NO cost. IF you sign up for the "real" race and it's a virtual only event, then the same applies. So, feel confident in whichever option you chose, you will still be participating.

During these uncertain times, we wanted to send an email out to go over what we are thinking.

1. Our goal is to hold the race, as planned, on August 29th. We are still over 90 days away, and as we have seen during this pandemic, a lot can change in a short period of time. You can be assured ALL health and safety guidance and measures would be taken into consideration!

2. Our backup plan would be to hold a "virtual" race with a two week window to complete the race(s). We'd have to work out many logistics, but "virtual" races are a growing trend, obviously. In fact, even if the race occurs, as scheduled, there is still a "virtual" race option.

One way or the other, the race WILL HAPPEN. With this being said, we are going to freeze the registration fees for ALL of the events, through August 14th. Additionally, with the economic downturn, our sponsorships will be very limited this year, so perks like shirts, awards, etc may be severely impacted.
