The Summer Experience Checklist Nobody Gave You (But Should Have) 05/06/2026

Hey parents — summer is almost here, and I want to make sure your student is actually ready for it.

Not just "I got the job" ready. I mean show up, stand out, and leave a lasting impression ready.

I put together something practical this week — the 10 things your student should know before Day 1 of any internship or summer job. And yes, there's a section you can forward directly to them. 😊
It's the kind of thing nobody tells them until after they've already made the mistake. Let's get ahead of it.

Link below — and share it with any parent or student who needs it this season! 👇🏿

This is so true. So after you decompress from finals, outline your personal essay - that you'll cater to each app - identify your faculty recommenders, and get to searching. The money is out there.

🎓 Headed to college orientation? Don’t just attend — maximize it!

Orientation is more than schedules and swag bags — it’s your first chance to set yourself up for success. ✅

Here are 3 pro tips to make the most of your orientation (and start college strong):
➡️ Connect early: Use social media to meet other incoming students. Start building your support network now.
➡️ Browse ahead: Look through the course catalog for electives and backup options — flexibility is your secret weapon.
➡️ Walk your schedule: Physically walk your class route while you're on campus. Confidence on Day 1 starts with knowing where you're going!

I help students and families bridge the gap between college admission and thriving in college. Small steps now make a big difference later.

If you have a high senior preparing to graduate, you're beaming with pride — and rightfully so! Graduation is right around the corner and before you know it, they'll go off to college. You have good reason to celebrate. But here's a truth I've seen over and over again in 20+ years in education:

⚡ Being college bound is NOT the same as college ready. In my time as a high school teacher, college instructor, and academic support program administrator, I've worked with thousands of students — and many struggle in the transition. Why? Because no one ever taught them HOW to be successful in college.

📕 That’s why I wrote a book specifically for first-year college students. College Ready 101 is a practical, mindset-shifting guide that helps students build habits and routines for success from day one.

The habits students - even high-achieving students - create in high school don't always work in college. In the same way moving to the big leagues in sports requires a different level of play, so does graduating from high school and going to college. CR101 is the graduation gift that actually prepares your first-year college student for what’s ahead and helps them increase their level of play.

🎓 A cap and gown marks the end of high school. CR101 helps students start college strong and build the foundation they need for success.

Hey friends! Let’s talk about what no one tells students about preparing for college. Being ready for college isn't just about SAT scores and application essays. It’s about:

✅ Knowing how to complete out forms without help
✅ Following up with a professor without spiraling
✅ Making good decisions about time, wellness, and academics

That’s where College Ready 101 comes in. It is a pocket guide for the real-life stuff that college expects your student to already know — but often doesn’t teach.

College bound and college ready aren't the same. Your student doesn't have to learn the hard way - the way many of us did. Give them them a little heads up and advantage before they step on campus.
