After a long year of planning, Greensboro AHEC kicked off its Inaugural Scholar’s Program with a diverse group of 15 students! The AHEC Scholars program allows students to receive 40 hours of didactic teaching and 40 hours of a clinical experience. To start, the group participated in 6 hours of didactic training on Health Disparities and Implicit Bias. It is motivating to see such young, bright, passionate minds concerned with very difficult topics.

Welcome, AHEC Scholars! We're excited for your future!

Scholars Program 04/24/2018

Hello All,

The time is now!!! We cordially invite you to a new opportunity that will begin this fall 2018.

The North Carolina AHEC Scholars Program is a state wide initiative to bridge multiple identified gaps within the North Carolina health care system, with an emphasis on individuals from underrepresented minorities, disadvantaged/rural backgrounds, and first-generation college students. The NC AHEC Scholars Program aims to improve the diversity and distribution of all health professions and to support health systems transformation across the state.

The program will begin in September and run through May each year, beginning in 2018-19. Curricular components of the NC AHEC Scholars Program may include interprofessional education, behavioral health education, social determinants of health, cultural competency, practice transformation, practical clinical skills, prevention, systems science, model for improvement, disparities, current and emerging issues.

We are looking for students who are seriously pursuing a health profession.

In order to be eligible for the AHEC Scholars Program you must already be enrolled in one of the approved professional health programs by fall 2018. You can find a complete list of all accepted programshttps://www.gahec.org/uploads/List-of-Accepted-Programs.pdf (HERE). Please see attached list of all accepted programs prior to applying to the Scholars program. You must have at least one year of your program remaining in order to apply for the Scholars Program. Each scholar will commit to the program for a total of 2 years. Scholars must have reliable access to internet connection, transportation, and must be eligible to work in the US. Applications from health professions students from disadvantaged and/or rural backgrounds, underrepresented minorities, and first-generation college will be heavily weighted. Each of the nine NC AHEC regions will select a group of scholars that represent diverse backgrounds and institutions and a variety of health care professions, including dentistry, management science, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, social work, speech therapy, and many others.
