This Is What Service Looks Like—On or Off Duty 💙
What started as a relaxing beach day quickly turned into a life-saving moment for one Chatham County deputy and his family.
Over Easter weekend, Deputy Herbie Stubbs was at Ocean Isle Beach when he spotted two young swimmers in distress near the pier, struggling against strong currents and clinging to pilings.
Without hesitation, Herbie, his son Chandler, and a family friend Marcus went into the water to help, joining others to form a human chain and bring the swimmers safely back to shore. Stubbs’ wife called 911 as the rescue unfolded.
Thankfully, everyone made it out safely with only minor injuries.
“In these situations, you can’t get worked up,” Stubbs said. “That’s what gets you in trouble.”
We’re proud of Deputy Stubbs for stepping up when it mattered most -- on duty or off. 🫶
