"The "Leandro" Crisis
You cannot talk about NC education spending without mentioning the Leandro v. State case.
The Conflict: For over 30 years, NC courts have ruled that the state is failing its constitutional duty to provide a "sound, basic education" to every child.
The 2026 Status: As of January 2026, the NC Supreme Court has yet to issue a final decision on whether the judicial branch can legally force the General Assembly to release billions in funding for the "Comprehensive Remedial Plan."
The Impact: Advocacy groups like NCPTA are calling this delay "neglect," as districts wait for funds promised for nurses, counselors, and updated textbooks.

It's a GREAT day to !
Congress is currently negotiating a Continuing Resolution to keep the federal government funded. Below are two great opportunities to take action to remind our elected officials about the importance of SNAP! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!
We need Congress to make simple changes *this month* to protect SNAP grocery support.
Take 1 min to tell NC leaders that we're counting on them to protect SNAP in NC.

PTA North Carolina Congress of Parents and Teachers INC stands with
National Parent Teacher Association
Let’s make schools a safe place for all children and families. Visit PTA.org/TakeAction to contact your members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor and pass the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, legislation that would prohibit immigration enforcement actions within 1,000 feet of schools, bus stops and early childhood centers, helping ensure our schools are a safe place for every family and for every child to learn and thrive.

Looking for Innovative Ideas to Celebrate Bring Your Family to School Week?
Check out these events that focus on families creating something together, which builds stronger bonds than just watching a presentation.
- Family "Build-a-Business" Night: Give families a "startup kit" (cardboard, markers, tape) and 45 minutes to invent a product or service. They then pitch it to "sharks" (teachers or local business owners).
- The "Lego My Ego" Challenge: Hand out specific building prompts (e.g., "Build your dream house"or "Build a bridge that holds 10 pennies"). It’s a low-stress way for parents to sit and play alongside their children.
- Upcycled Fashion Show: Families use recycled materials (newspapers, trash bags, duct tape) to create an outfit. Students model them on a "runway" in the cafeteria.

The Digital-First Membership Experience
In 2026, paper forms are the backup, not the default. Make sure your PTA has a "two-tap" joining experience.
- Mobile Wallets: Use platforms like Givebacks so members get a digital membership card immediately in their Apple or Google Wallet.
- Recurring Memberships: Offer an "Auto-Renew" option. It’s easier for parents to "set it and forget it" than to remember to join every fall.
- QR Code "In-the-Moment" Prompts: Put QR codes all over the school, on social media, and even on all communication you send out to your community.
