Harborfields Alumni & Community Educational Foundation HACEF’S mission is to promote and enhance the educational opportunities for the children of our community. HACEF is a not-for-profit 501c(3) corporation.

HACEF’S mission is to promote and enhance the educational opportunities for the children of our community in grades K-12. The foundation raises money to provide grants for programs, materials and technology and to support initiatives taken by our educators to explore creative and innovative ways to enrich our children’s education. To date, HACEF has funded oer $70,000 in grants and $50,000 in scho

larships. The initiatives funded by HACEF are a direct result of the generosity and support of the Harborfields Community. The Harborfields Alumni and Community Educational Foundation (HACEF) is a not-for-profit 501c(3) corporation established in November 2003.

WEEK 6 Little Sprouts with Michelle Gianotti

Day 1:
We planted: caladium bulbs and a pollinator mix.
We learned about what plants need to grow and about our pollinator friends.
We made a seed greenhouse by placing a lima bean on a damp paper towel in a plastic bag; we will observe the seed as it changes daily in its own mini greenhouse.
At snack, they watched a time-lapse video
of caladium growing. We finished the day with a drawing of the pollinator of their choice.

Day 2:
We planted: Venus flytrap seeds and a gazania mix.
We learned all about carnivorous plants. We went outside and played a game of seed, seed, sprout.
We checked on our lima bean seeds that are slowly beginning to germinate in their mini greenhouse.
We read "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carl. We watched a time-lapse video of a Venus flytrap growing.
We drew a Venus flytrap.

Day 3:
We planted: Mimosa
Pudica (touch-sensitive plant) & zinnia.
We learned all about photosynthesis and chlorophyll. We colored using the chlorophyll from spinach.
We played Nature Bingo.
We read a book about the needs of plants. We watched a time-lapse video of mimosa pudica growing. We drew our mimosa pudica plants.

Day 4:
Today we learned all about sunflowers. We planted them, drew them, and even learned a song about them.
